Way way back in January 2019 I was commissioned to build a Guitar to be played at Burning Man festival 2020 (classical guitar in one of the temples). And , Well….obviously this never happened. …Nevertheless here is the guitar it is a Terz Guitar (tuned in G with a 590mm scale) the smaller body is both easier to carry around at festivals and also, less likely to crack in the desert dry heat. Also the back and sides are western hemlock which is very stable with humidity changes, and the soundboard is torreffied European spruce ( also stable) . Also has a burning man rosette (fire and the burning man symbol) and a stylized Fire inlay-appliqué (3D inlay) on the headstock . … However, The most Unique feature is the lighting around the soundboard and rosette that changes colors and intensity with a MIDI signal . Sadly, the owner of this guitar Is since , deceased, and this guitar will probably never make it to Burning Man (RIP Nick Syada you are missed).

Baroque guitar is the longest lasting version of the guitar it was in use from about 1630- 1810 (though I have repaired a baroque guitar built in 1811. So obviously these dates are only estimated and overlap with other versions of the guitar )
Baroque guitars popularity for so long is with good reason …it has a beautiful delicate but haunting sound that is equally good as a classical and a folk instrument . This instrument is based on the dimensions of Historical (but fully functional) guitar by Alexander Voboam from 1680, that is currently in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts ( MFA ) Boston . The original is a bit fancier than this (I am currently working on an exact replica) If you don’t currently own a baroque guitar you should definitely get one here is some is some inspiration for the possibilities. https://youtu.be/maekYcb8s2U (copy and paste)

SEAN SPURLING "Double Top" Classical Guitar #206

This is an amazing, very versatile guitar.

Right off the bat, you’ll notice how powerful the sound is. Much of this can be attributed to its double-top. At the same time, this instrument produces a very nice, traditional guitar sound. It is very versatile because of the many different colors and timbres it can produce. This instrument possesses both warm, round tones and bright, punchy tones depending on how you play. This is especially true in the trebles, while the basses are very deep and rich.

Overall, the tonal separation from string to string on this guitar is excellent! The action is superb, and the workmanship is outstanding, with strikingly fine, intricate inlays.

This guitar comes straight from Sean’s shop and is in mint condition.

With hardshell case

Currently For Sale; This is a very Special Guitar..It is from my vintage “storyteller” series. (Finger-style folk steel string guitar)

Soundboard ( and bracing) is Made of a (more than) 100 years old spruce that was salvaged from the (E flat) ,Bass whistle Pipe of a pipe organ that was built around 1906 in Detroit.

The point here is the the wood already knows how to sing ...And sing it dose...

Complimented by a beautiful set of Honduran rosewood that is both fairly plain wood grain, and also has gorgeous photo tropics in the wood grain ( I tried to add photos where this was apparent.)

Neck is of Spanish cedar and is finished in a French polish of shellac. The headstock is an actual graft ( like all 19th century Martins and not the carved in diamond that you will find on contemporary Martins

Varnish on the face of the head and the rest of the guitar,

Varnish is never as Shiny as lacquer, and you should expect a rich satin finish and not a plastic like finish Like modern guitars , Varnish dose add an something ( a warmth) to a guitar that defies accurate description. It is actually more durable than lacquer, but unlike lacquer, it is difficult ( if not impossible to repair in an invisible manner ( repairs will always be obvious)

this Guitar is designed for low tension Newtone Strings,(though any low tension string will work)

Bridge and fingerboard Are of African Ebony

Bindings are Indian Rosewood

The overall aesthetic of the guitar is based on an 1893 Martin Style 17 (back when style 17 was still made of rosewood....And still a bit fancy... Inside it is essentially vintage Martin ( with a couple of additional contemporary features).
