Happy Birthday Judy Garland, and Happy Birthday Q***r Arts Featured.

It’s near impossible to believe four years ago we threw the door wide open for a six month pop up that, by sheer will, tireless effort, endless community support, and the collaboration of the incredible community we celebrate and serve, continues today.

In that time so much has changed, grown and evolved. Artistic careers have been kickstarted, events have blown the roof off, loved ones have come and gone, friendships and relationships have bloomed, and thousands of people from around the world have felt the energy this community generates.

The thanks are endless, from day one today, and cannot be adequately expressed in an Instagram post.

In a city where we’re losing q***r spaces that stand for something, and the creatives who turn the cultural gears of our lives, we are prouder than we can say, and we don’t take for granted the massive village it takes to raise this child. It is ours, it is yours, it is San Francisco’s.

And don’t worry, there’s more. And we’ll need your help to ensure that. Together, we will keep our historic piece of the Castro Q***r A.F.

THIS SUNDAY, June 14th, join us for Lavender Light: A Live Panel Discussion!

Moderated by the incomparable , and co-sponsored by .

Panelists include icons Will Roscoe, Dorian Katz, Al Lujan & Crystal Mason

“To shed more lavender light on the current QAF exhibition “Live Big, Love Hard”, we’re going to walk together into the past with some of our friends who were there and can tell us about the times on Castro Street and around the Bay during the Gay Pride (but also Anita Bryant) years in the 1970s, the HIV epidemic that tore through our communities in the 1980s, and the fight-back era of the late ‘80s and early ‘90s. Meet people who were there—and are still here—and learn more about the art and the life of those profoundly influential decades.” -Carol Queen

This evening is not to be missed, and will take us on a journey that reminds us where we’ve been, how far we’ve come, and how we can fortify ourselves and each other for what’s ahead.

Join us.

🩵🤍🩷NO ONE WAY to…Inhabit a body. Love others, ourselves. Show up in, with, and for our community.
There has never been one way.

For generations, the renegades of the Bay Area have understood this pluralism, and q***r and trans people from around the world have been drawn here. It is a place where movements begin and pioneers find and nurture themselves, their voice, and their medium. Transmen, transmasculine, and transmasc non-binary folks have been a formidable part of that story, though history has not always remembered them that way.

This show represents a small and powerful group of trans artists and activists and allies, each a vital part of shaping our past, present, and future. You are invited to spend time with each artist and subject, and add your own voice to the conversation at the interactive NO ONE WAY WALL. 📌

Each of us weaves threads into the tapestry, and the spectrum of our experiences and contributions not only make it stronger, but far more beautiful.🎨🫧🌏💫🌺

👕🛍️ Also exhibition t-shirts and tote bags still available! Beautifully designed block print by .art and hand printed at ***rartsfeatured! 🫆🫟

SHOW CONCLUDES THIS SUNDAY 5/31! Gallery open Saturday 12-7 and Sunday 12-6.

This deserves to be shared in its entirety. Take six minutes today and listen to DeMarea Brandy speak truth to power on Harvey Milk Day, to say the hard things (as Harvey did), and to call on us all to honor our history by demanding better of those who claim to represent us.

It makes us proud to hear such a powerful voice ring out in the Castro, and inspires us to boldly carry forward 💛🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️💛

On May 22, 1930, Harvey Milk was born.

He came to San Francisco in his 40s, helped open a camera shop at 575 Castro, and ultimately changed the country.

But Harvey knew he wasn’t the point. The movement was the point. The Castro in the 1970s was full of people building something; activists, artists, agitators, lovers — and Harvey was the one who got elected to speak for all of them. 💐We celebrate Harvey and everyone who stood beside him, today and everyday. 💐
Happy Harvey Milk Day. 🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Join us at 6pm in front of 575 Castro, Q***r Arts Featured, as we gather to march down to Jane Warner Plaza to reflect, remember, and celebrate while we spotlight Trans health needs and bring awareness to this very important issue. 🩵🤍🩷

Join us on June 5th for this incredible group exhibition of more than thirty works from the Bay Area in the q***r 70s, 80s, and 90s.

Live Big, Love Hard is a portrait of nine Bay Area artists living, fighting, and dancing through one of the most extraordinary periods an American community has created for itself — the political awakening of the 70s, the devastation of AIDS in the 80s, the rage and rebuilding of the 90s — making work that was radiant in spite of the chaos. It is not a memorial, though it honors those we’ve lost. It is not a history lesson, though there is much to learn.

With curatorial collaboration from and , is a multimedia exploration that holds joy and grief in the same hand. The subjects are funny, sexual, tender, and so alive they practically hum off the wall. These artists did not wait for permission to celebrate the world they were building. Neither do we.

Many of these works have not been seen publicly in decades. Some were nearly destroyed. That they are gathered here, on Castro Street, in the neighborhood where this history was made and lived and danced, feels exactly right. The majority are available for sale, some for the first time. To bring one home is to become a steward of a living inheritance.

Q***r history is not a relic. We keep dancing because they refused to stop.
