Teddy Bear
There are many stories about how the Teddy Bear got its name. It may be a myth but the teddy bear is said to be named after Theodore Roosevelt, a hunter who disliked being called "Teddy". Roosevelt was the 26th and youngest President of the United States. He was president from 1901 to 1909. Friends of the president gave him the nickname "Teddy".

Strunz Jester Teddy Bear

Not in a laughing mood? Bear with us, because the price on this jester teddy is no joke. Made by Strunz circa 1904, this rare teddy bear is almost impossible to find for sale.

Its jester costume is exactly like the one manufactured by Steiff for their clown toy in the same year. Steiff was understandably unhappy about the exact copy, but Strunz continued copying them for years.

Steiff Harlequin bear

This primary tri-colored Harlequin bear was made by Steiff as just a sample in 1925 and only one survives today. It was auctioned in 1999 at the annual Steiff Festival when a collector Paul Greenwood bought it for more than monstrous $83,000, though later he was convicted of fraud, and his entire collection was auctioned off.

'Titch' Hecla Teddy Bear

Titch, an expensive teddy bear made by Hecla in 1907, has one of the sweetest looks of all the bears we've come across.

He's only 11.5 inches tall and his paw pads are slightly worn, but his warm face looks like he has years of happy memories.

If only he could share them with us.

Bruin Steiff Teddy Bear

This Bruin Steiff teddy bear is a few decades younger than most of the rare teddy bears here, and it shows.

His velvety brown mohair is in perfect condition. If he were sitting in the window of a toy shop today, this 12-inch teddy would fit in just fine.

His squeaker doesn't work any more, but this 1940's bear was otherwise flawless when he was sold.

Princess Diana Beanie Baby

The purple Beanie Baby dubbed Princess Diana bear quickly became a star when it was introduced in 1997, sadly it was the year she died. It was a special edition created to raise money for her Memorial Fund. What was only pegged for $5-$7 for price quickly became a reseller legend. Stores were allowed to only sell a few at a time which led to the belief that it was limited in quantity. Today it is vintage status worthy especially if the bear is made of polyvinylchloride (PVC). In 2019 one of such Princess bears was sold for $10,000.

Happy Steiff Bear

Even $ 55,000 is a huge sum, at least as far as teddy bears are concerned. Steiff’s merry mohair bear was produced as far back as 1926. In 1989, it was bought by Paul Volpp and given to his wife Rosemary for the 42nd wedding anniversary and a sign of endless love.
