He will also be known as the catcher who attempted to make the play at the plate after receiving a throw from but unfortunately slid in safe (debatable call) and eliminates the Pirates from the in . The went on to the and lost which was a real shame because the Pirates were the more talented team and probably had a better shot of winning.

This card was produced in 1989 for the Pirates with the help of and the cards came in an uncut perforated sheet. Naturally, I was a kid and divided the cards up so I could put them in my book. It doesn’t matter though because the uncut sheet seems to only go for about $20.

The are hoping to clinch the NLCS tonight against the with on the bump to start.

In honor of tonight’s game, let’s take a look at this card. This is 1990 Donruss card #646 produced by

Just a short time later in 1992 Cabrera would single to left field against the in Game 7 of the sending all the way home from second base as the game winning run. What I find funny is everyone remembers and but hardly anyone ever connects Cabrera with this huge part of baseball history. Usually it’s the guy who hit the ball who gets the credit. The Braves even have Bream’s knee brace inside on display. Just very weird to me.

Anyhow, let’s see if the Braves can get back to the WorldSeries tonight.

Time to clinch! World Series bound!

Remember when some relief pitcher who is like .000001% Native American cried about the crowd doing the tomahawk chop? They’re about to be chopped right out of the postseason.

was an outfielder who could hit with the best of them. He used a 48-ounce bat. That might seem extreme but if you think of it baseball was a lot different in the early 1900’s. Guys were basically pitching balls made of old socks so the velocity wasn’t there and it probably helped to have a solid piece of wood smacking that thing. In comparison, used a 44-ounce bat.

Mike LaValliere had a solid career as a catcher. He attended where he was a multi-sport athlete who played both baseball and hockey.

Unfortunately for him, he’s also the guy who had slide by him to beat the and crush their shot at playing in the World Series in 1992. That wasn’t really LaValliere’s fault though and if you ask me, Bream was OUT!

I like the layout of this card produced by / and it is card #121 from the 1992 set.

This Greg McMichael card is interesting for a few reasons. It was produced by as part of their 1993

McMichael pitched for the but didn’t have a record when this card was made.

Here’s the most interesting tidbit about the card… if you look at the back of the card you’ll see that behind McMichael in his throwing motion is a photo of the carving on

For those unaware, those are carved into the side of

In today’s culture I can’t see or any trading card manufacturer including this. I don’t think anyone would want to deal with the P.R. damage control that would come with putting an image of on someone’s baseball card.

This is card #489 from that set.

We got another produced card. This is Scott Stahoviak. I don’t know much about the guy but this card is absolutely worthless. I have no idea where I got this from as a kid but I’m assuming I found it in a pack I picked up at a K-Mart.

is this you? Google says Stahoviak later became a gym teacher.

is seen here as a member of the (California Angels at that time) on card #372 from 1996.

Abbott put up ok numbers as a pitcher until you realize that he did it all with only one hand and then those numbers mean a lot more.

Abbott was born without a right hand and still managed to compete at the major league level and sustain a career that spanned a decade. He is also the author of a book called “Imperfect: An Improbable Life”
