In this Contemporary San Diego Residence, the listening lounge became one of the home's most enjoyed spaces.

Designed around a Focal America Utopia 1000 system, the room was created to deliver exceptional clarity and depth while remaining thoughtfully integrated into the overall design of the home.

Together with the media room, it provides a place to unwind, entertain, and enjoy music in a more intentional way.

This year marks 25 years of LIGHTWORKS.

When CEO Troy Dunnington and Principal Todd Walling met at a San Diego design center in 1999, they quickly found a shared passion for lighting, construction, and design while collaborating on residential homes.

At the time, projects often involved multiple independent subcontractors handling electrical, AV, lighting control, security, telephone and data, landscape lighting, and the early days of motorized shading. Most worked separately, with little coordination between teams, creating a fragmented experience for both clients and trade partners.

Troy and Todd believed there was a better way.

That idea led to the founding of LIGHTWORKS in 2001 and the opening of the company’s first showroom in Sorrento Mesa just two years later. Today, our Miramar showroom continues to serve as a place where clients, builders, architects, designers, and industry partners can experience technology firsthand and explore ideas together.

As we reflect on the past 25 years, we are incredibly grateful for the relationships, partnerships, and trust that have shaped the journey along the way.
