When I first visited Uganda as a Peace Corp in 2019, the beauty of the kitenge fabrics caught my attention. I could not resist trying out one, and from then, it became an addiction; I could not stop exploring the designs, which led to a light-bulb moment that I could establish a business. I wanted to explore more; I wanted to pass this beauty to America; I wanted to see beautiful, vibran

t colors around, which led to the establishment of Naluja Designs. I explored the busy local markets with Uganda's rich culture and values and fell in love with the vivid African kitenge fabrics. Naluja Designs started with one mission bridging Africa to the world. Still, as time passed, we understood the support we had for the small businesses in Africa and particularly in Uganda was incredible and mind-blowing. The lovingly handmade, Kitenge designs are created from small runs of each print. Every item: the face mask, clothes, and placements are individually hand-cut, so the print placement varies, ensuring no two items are ever the same! By purchasing a Kitenge design, we are improving Naluju partners such as Nikaranda Shamim, located in Kampala, Uganda. They can support their lives, families and reduce local unemployment. “The fabric quality is excellent. The masks are constructed so that they do not end up in your mouth as you breathe. The fabric colors are unique, and I am often asked where I found my mask. I lost one from my pocket and was devastated until I went back to the ETSY website, found my previous order and re-ordered. So great I could still get them in the same colors from the same vendor!”.
