August is National Dog Month, a time to celebrate our canine companions and the joy they bring us!
For at least 14,000 years, the dog has been by our hearthside keeping us company and warning us of danger. He's served from the farm to the battlefield. He's entertained us in TV and film and sniffed out contraband in our airports.
But his most important job has been the comfort he provided us.
And in turn, we have rewarded him with treats, beds, toys and spa treatments!
But not all dogs are so lucky. Approximately 6 million enter shelters each year. Millions more survive and suffer on the streets.
The reality is, not all of them will survive. But we can do our small part to end the suffering by caring for and finding homes for some of them.

They make look like tourists about to leave on vacation, but in reality Laverne & Shirley are leaving on transport to their forever home! These lucky girls will Summer in South Dakota and Winter in Texas.
