Two more Hugs & Kisses blankets in the books! My amazing cousin had twins just before Christmas, so I made matching Christmas blankets. I didn’t want to make them exactly the same because 1) we didn’t know until the twins were born whether they’d be boys, girls, or a boy and a girl, and 2) I figure twins probably end up with enough identical stuff that I didn’t want to start them out with totally matching blankets. ♥️💚

It turned out she had a boy and a girl, and they are so sweet! We were lucky enough to spend a few days with them over Christmas and it was so wonderful.

I have a couple more blankets to make (my personal circle is having a bit of a baby boom!) but I’ve been taking a break since Christmas. Hopefully I’ll get started up again next week!

Well…it’s been quite a while since I’ve posted on the grid here! I’d gotten away from crocheting regularly for a long time because work got very busy and I definitely lost some crojo. But now we’ve moved again and since I don’t have a job at the moment, I’m back to crocheting to keep me busy during the day!

I started this blanket before we left Texas and finished it when we got to Washington. It’s a simple waffle stitch with a moss stitch border. Lots of squish and bounce in this one! Plus the colors are just 🤌🏻

Yarn: in Peacock
Pattern: with border

Well, it’s a quarantine Christmas here! 😷

We traveled to New York for Christmas, which was probably mistake number 1, but I hadn’t seen my family in two years and I wasn’t willing to cancel again. On our layover, we found out my sister and mom had tested positive, and then the next morning my husband tested positive (before even seeing the fam yet), so we figured might as well all quarantine together. I’m the only one who hasn’t tested positive yet, but we’re figuring it’s only a matter of time.

So we’re all hunkering down and having a very low-key Christmas with lots of relaxing, snacks, soup, and movies. We even had a little snow ❄️ this morning! We’re making the best of it, but I’m still bummed that I won’t get to see my friends or extended family.

On the plus side, I’m finally getting a chance to spend some time crocheting. I’m starting the Asteria pattern, which I’ve been seeing a lot on the crochet subreddit, actually. I’m also using my first Scheepjes Whirl, so I’m pretty excited about that too.

Hoping you’re all having a happy and safe holiday season and keeping healthy!

*peeks around corner* so…hey…it’s been a while 😬

I’m loving my new job but it’s kicking my butt in terms of energy to do things OTHER than work! Today is my first real day off in two weeks, which is just how the way the events life goes sometimes, but that doesn’t make it less exhausting. We’ve also been working out a lot more, so on nights that we do that it’s hard to find time to do much else other than shower and fall into bed!

Today we made the “mistake” of going to Walmart after OrangeTheory, mainly because we didn’t feel like doing a full grocery shop today and needed some essentials, and I needed to pick up a prescription. I told Andrew I didn’t mind waiting, I’d just go look at yarn! His response was “Walmart has yarn?…” so we went over to the craft section together and I saw these beauties from and couldn’t resist. 😬 Eh, I haven’t bought yarn in months so I feel like I’m entitled, right?? I’ve never used these colors before but I think they’d look great as the bobble stripes in Macy beanies!

Anyway, I’m hoping these bright colors will bring me some inspiration in the next few weeks, and that I’ll have more energy to act on that inspiration!

What do you do when you feel too tired to crochet?

Hey y’all! It’s been a minute since I posted or really done any crochet stuff tbh! Started a new job this week (FINALLY YAY) and actually getting up and dressed every morning to interact with the world for nine hours has been hella exhausting! My social endurance is shot after a year plus of crocheting on the couch by myself so this little introvert needs to build her strength back up 😂

Anyway, I wanted to share some pics of the gorgeous Alix shawl that I tested for ! The pattern officially comes out soon and it’s a fun one! Lots of counting though, so make sure you’re up for that. But when you see the results start to unspool from your fingers, especially if you use a gradient yarn like the cake I used, all the counting (and recounting, and re-recounting) will be worth it! I mean, seriously, check out how cool that subtle texture looks!

I had a good bit of yarn left over at the end (Amber planned it this way so she could make tassels for her shawl, but I’m not a tassels gal myself) so I added four rows of the iris stitch after the last row, which is just (2dc, ch1, 2dc) in one stitch, skip 3 stitches, and repeat. It gives a nice scalloped edge to the shawl, which I wanted to make it just a little more girly 💕

Happy 4th of July! 🇺🇸

Here’s a quick throwback to that time I made an American flag blanket for my dad, who is a retired veteran from both the Air Force and the police. I made this when I was still a relative beginner, and bit off a bit more than I could chew—I decided that it was important to have stars on BOTH sides so the blanket could be flipped like a real flag, so ya girl made ONE HUNDRED STARS instead of the standard (and more reasonable) 50. I thought I was going to LOSE MY MIND sewing them all on. To be fair, I was able to sew two at a time, because I sewed them back to back to each other with the blanket in between, but it still took me a couple weeks of spending every day off sewing for eight hours or so. This may be the main reason I hate sewing so much. 🤔

Anyway, it is the absolute best thing I’ve made that I will absolutely never make ever again. If I ever announce plans to make one again, I’m counting on you all to either convince me not to, or to make sure I’m charging at least $1000 to whoever I’m making it for 😂

Hope you all have a happy and safe 4th, and remember to be considerate of pets and veterans when you’re setting off fireworks 🎇🎆

Here’s a project I’ve been working on for a while but haven’t posted about! I love waffle stitch, but I go back and forth between wanting something mindless—like this—and something that requires a little more concentration, like the Klaziena shawl I made for my mom, or something quick and easy, like beanies or headbands. Waffle stitch is NOT something you want to be dealing with when you want instant gratification! It’s a yarn-eater and takes a while to work up, but the soft and squishy result makes it worth it. 💙

This blanket is actually a referral I got from another waffle blanket I made! I love making baby blankets and it’s always gratifying to know that people like what I make. 🥰 I can’t wait to see this one when it’s finished—it looks like there’ll be some interesting color pooling!

Finally got to the end of the written pattern for the Alix shawl—no more counting!!! I have a lot of yarn left, so I’m going to add some kind of frilly edge. After trying out a couple different options I think I’m going with the iris stitch! Can’t wait to show y’all when it’s done! 🤩

This gradient just keeps getting better and better! This deep royal blue/purple is so vibrant—it makes me want to wrap myself in it. Also, don’t you love when your crochet hook perfectly matches your project??

I’ll be honest, I’m losing some momentum like I often do on projects like this, because the repeats are getting soooo long. The row I’m currently on is 420 stitches. That takes me…a while. So I keep putting it down when the counting gets to be too much, which is happening more and more frequently 😂

I’ll be done soon enough, though! Just gotta power through! 💙💜💗

I just have to share the amazing anniversary gift my husband got me! People always look at me like 👀 when I tell them all I want for gifts is yarn, but it seriously is the only kind of “stuff” I usually want—I can buy my own clothes and whatnot, but I won’t always splurge on fancy yarn despite how much I drool over it. I’ve finally managed to convince a few people that yes, I do in fact want yarn for my birthday/Christmas/whatever, and my husband went and bought me this gorgeous yarn from !

This is Observatory Circle, the colorway that went viral back in March when Kamala Harris bought some for her stepdaughter. Andrew definitely splurged and bought me EIGHT SKEINS! I’m so excited to have so much of this gorgeous yarn to work with. I just wish I didn’t live in Texas, where a wool sweater is just not something I need 😂😭 I’ve made myself a couple scarves and wraps recently, so I could really use some pattern recommendations!

He also got me this amazing “Crochet Czar” pin, which is why I didn’t get to open this amazing gift until two months after our actual anniversary—it was a special order that didn’t ship until this month! This means I need to settle on a single project bag now so I can pin it on there—usually I just carry my projects in whatever I have handy 🥴

I can’t wait to make something pretty with this yarn. Now taking any and all suggestions!!
