Town Books

Town Books Quality used books at more than fair prices. All proceeds benefit the town’s nearly 100-year-old Carnegie-built library.

Town Books is operated entirely by volunteers with the San Anselmo Friends of the Library, and all books are donated. Prices are competitive and the selection is large. We offer beautiful, barely-used coffee table books, suitable for gift-giving, as well as current fiction and non-fiction, and an awesome childrens' books section.

🌙 Last call for the New Moon Artists.

Two months ago we hung seven artists' work on these walls — oil, graphite, encaustic, print, fiber. Since then it's changed how the shop feels. People come in for a paperback and end up standing in front of a painting for ten minutes. Some decide take the painting home.

That ends this month. If you've been meaning to stop by, this is the week — the work is still available, and a piece that speaks to you supports both the artist and the San Anselmo Public Library.

And to Deb, Susan, Pauliny, Sharon, Ericka, Mary Anne, and Leaza — thank you for putting something this personal on public walls, and for raising money for the San Anselmo Public Library. 🎨

🌄 Meet Ericka Lavigne, featured at Town Books.

Her hills are the ochre and gold you'd recognize from any Marin ridgeline — but the sky above has other ideas. She paints the hour when the light stops behaving and everything goes soft at the edges.

Book related organizations have been showing off Ericka's work since she was a child — she sold her artwork from the walls of the Sausalito Public Library.

Her surfaces look weathered in the best sense — pale greens and golds that seem to have been rained on, buried, and dug back up. Stand with one a while and shapes start surfacing that weren't there a moment ago.

Her drawings catch people mid-thought — a look held a beat too long, a gesture you can't quite read. Graphite does the work here, and the restraint is the point: what she leaves out is what keeps you standing there.

📖 SAVE THE DATE: Antiquarian & Vintage Book Sale, August 21–22, only two short days.

Some of these were printed before the building they're sitting in existed. They've held up better than most things that old — the weight, the foxed pages, that smell you can't get from a screen.

Worth remembering, too, that these were written without a delete key. No autocorrect, no undo, and definitely no AI option. Just ink, paper, patience, and the discipline of getting it right with time. ⌛ It shows and there are not many left in this world.

Stop by and take home a piece of history that will make for a great conversation piece. Remember, every dollar of net proceeds goes to the San Anselmo Public Library. 🕯 Every minute dedicated to Town Books is 100% volunteered and we are so grateful to those who give time to help us fund our local public library. 🙏

🎨 Meet Leaza Urban — one of seven talented artists whose work is brightening the walls at Town Books right now.

A born-and-raised Marin County artist, Leaza has a gift for chasing light. She paints for that "glow" — the moment a light source catches a scene and everything around it comes alive with reflection and shadow. This dreamy bridge over still water is a perfect example: look how the greens practically hum.
