Our classes cover various aspects of jewelry making, such as metalsmithing (silversmithing), casting, cold connections, PMC, enameling, lapidary, and more. We provide group and private instruction, as well as different type

s of classes, including weeknight and full-day workshops, virtual and week-long classes, and specialized techniques from visiting instructors. Inlay is not setting a stone. It is filling a channel with one.

Instead of building metal up around a stone to grip it, you cut a recess into the metal and fit crushed or shaped stone down into it, then grind the whole surface flush. When it is done right you run a finger across the ring and feel nothing. Metal and stone sit level, like the ring was always one material.

Turquoise is the classic. It also works beautifully with lapis, coral, and just about anything with strong color.

Cut the stone. Then build the silver that holds it. Same afternoon.

Combo Class runs Thursday, September 3, 3-7pm. You start on the lapidary side and grind a rough stone into a finished cabochon. Then you move to the bench and fabricate a sterling bezel around the exact stone you just cut.

Most people learn these two things years apart. Doing them back to back changes how you think about both. You stop treating the stone and the setting as separate problems.

You can buy a cabochon. Or you can cut the exact one you want.

Intro to Lapidary runs Monday, August 31, 6-8pm. Two hours of grinding, shaping, sanding, and polishing rough stone into a finished cabochon you cut yourself. You take home one or two.

It caps at three people, so it runs close to a private lesson. Good one to bring a friend to.

You do not need to be a metalsmith to take it. Plenty of people come because they like rocks and want to stop buying other people's.

Nobody gets excited about files. Then they try to clean up a bezel with the wrong one.

A needle file set is twelve different shapes because metal has more than one kind of tight corner. Half round for the inside of a curve. Square for a crisp inside angle. Triangle for a V you cannot reach any other way. Barrette for filing flat against a surface without gouging what is next to it.

Using the right profile is the difference between a clean line and forty minutes of sanding out your own mistakes.

This is the set we put in students' hands, and it is the one most people end up buying for home.

Four hours is the sweet spot. Long enough to finish something properly, short enough to still have your evening.

Half Day Metalsmithing runs Thursday, August 27, 5-9pm. You pick what you want to make and we teach the techniques as you go. Sawing, soldering, forming, finishing. Most people leave with a piece they are genuinely pleased with rather than one they had to rush.

It is a good next step if you have done a three hour class and wanted more time.

Three of those are technique. One of them is the technique that actually gets you through the afternoon.

The best sound in the studio is the one you can't hear.

About forty minutes into any class, the talking stops. Everyone has found the thing they are working on and gone quiet. All you get is filing, the odd hammer, and somebody's torch.

We have started calling it the drop. It happens in every single class, and it is the moment people usually tell us they forgot about their phone entirely.

That is most of why people come back. Not the ring. The three hours where nothing else got in.

Pour molten metal into sand and pull out something nobody can copy.

Sand Casting runs Thursday, August 27, 5-8pm. You pack the mold, melt your metal, and cast a solid piece that keeps every texture the sand gave it. No two ever come out the same, which is the entire point.

Three hours. No experience needed. It is one of the fastest ways to go from raw metal to a finished object you can hold.

If your solder keeps balling up and sitting there instead of flowing, it is almost never the solder.

It is heat, and specifically where the heat is. Solder runs toward the hottest point. So if you park the flame right on the seam, the solder sits and stares at you. Heat the whole piece evenly, then bring the flame around to draw the solder where you want it to go.

The other half is fit. If there is daylight between the two edges, no amount of heat will bridge it. File until they touch.

That's it. Clean fit, even heat, and the solder does the rest.

A saddle ring sits differently on the hand. Wider, lower, like it has always been there.

Layered Saddle Ring runs Wednesday, August 26, 5-10pm. Five hours to build a ring with real depth, stacking and soldering layers so the band curves and settles into the finger instead of standing off it.

This one is for people who already solder. If you have made a band before and want to make one that looks like it came from somebody who has been doing this a while, this is that class.

It does not come around often.
