It's one of the most significant shifts in joint replacement today. We recently had the privilege of joining a leading ASC group along with Christopher E. Pelt, MD, for a discussion on what makes the shift possible.

"Will it work in challenging anatomy?"
This is the question every surgeon asks about any implant system.
For the Modern Universal Femur, we now have 10 years of data—including high-risk patients.

High-Risk Patient Subset:
The In a 10-year follow-up study of 107 patients (122 knees) study included patients with significant preoperative valgus deformity:
• Up to 24° valgus deformity preoperatively • Average preop valgus: 7.8° ± 5.8° • These are patients at higher risk for patellar maltracking

The Results:
ZERO issues with patellar maltracking at 10-year follow-up. Not "low rates." ZERO.
Even in patients with >20° preoperative valgus alignment—historically considered high-risk for tracking problems—the patented double Q-angle maintained proper patellar tracking.

Average Measurements at 10 Years: • Patellar tilt: 2.8° ± 3.7° • Patellar shift: 0.06 ± 0.07 mm
These are excellent values, regardless of preop deformity.

What This Tells Us:
The Modern Universal Femur isn't just for "easy" cases.
It's proven in: ✅ Severe valgus deformity (up to 24°) ✅ Older patients (mean age 66) ✅ Resurfaced and non-resurfaced patella

She just finished her last major semester in Biomedical Engineering at the UofU, with only a couple of classes remaining until she officially graduates next Fall. Commensurate with the work she is performing at TJO, a promotion to a Quality Engineer role is reflective of the high technical knowledge and skills she demonstrates on a daily basis.
