Kira Emery Brown was born in Salt Lake City and grew up between there and the coast of Oregon. She was raised by a slew of creatives that sparked her desire to respect, conserve, and capture the natural world through various mediums. Her father is a talented musician, her mother an eclectic crafter, and her other father is a painter, sculptor, and former art teacher. He was integral in teaching Ki

ra the fundamentals of artistic expression. Art has always been an important outlet for her, and in recent years, she has combined her passions for creating and environmental conservation. She created Shop Less Waste to sell pieces made from thrifted, gifted, and recycled materials. Acrylic and watercolor are her primary mediums, but she also does embroidery, knitting, crocheting, sculpting, and paper making. Her art often depicts natural scenes and organic shapes in the abstract.

I'm stoked with how my "Arched Brow" mask turned out for the Utah Arts Festival masquerade fundraiser. I made this mask from recycled paper and wheat paste, and it's painted with acrylics! It will be available on their website until the end of today, and if it doesn't sell by then, it will be up for auction at The Masquerade Party!

I created Shop Less Waste in 2021 to combine my passions for art and environmental conservation into an earth-friendly shop! All of my pieces are made from thrifted, gifted, and recycled materials. Watercolor and paper making are my primary media, but you can also expect to see embroidery, knitting, crocheting, sculpting, and acrylic painting. My art often depicts natural scenes, taking inspiration from our beautiful planet that I hope to lessen my negative impact on.
