With songs like Here Comes the Rain, There Goes My Heart, All You Ever Do Is bring Me Down, Tell Me Why, and the haunting Ven Hacia Mi (Come Unto Me), Singer Songwriter and Frontman Raul Malo was truly a master of his Craft.

It’s with the deepest grief we share the passing of our friend, bandmate and brother Raul Malo on December 8th, 2025 at the age of 60.

Anyone with the pleasure of being in Raul’s orbit knew that he was a force of human nature, with an infectious energy. Over a career of more than three decades entertaining millions around the globe, his towering creative contributions and unrivaled, generational talent created the kind of multicultural American music reaching far beyond America itself.

While his spirited performances garnered a massive & loyal following, and his powerful songwriting and musicianship earned multiple Grammy, ACM, and CMA awards, it was his lifelong commitment to the preservation of the multi-lingual American musical repertoire of which he was most proud, making history in 2020 with the first album ever to debut at the top of both the Latin Pop and Folk-Americana charts. It was this commitment, along with his steadfast championing of music education as an inspiration for every child across America and throughout the world, for which Raul was honored with the Americana Music Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award, and the National Music Council of the United States’ American Eagle Award.

Though his earthly body may have passed, Raul’s spirit will live on forever in heaven, and here on earth through the music, joy, and light he brought forth. His contributions to American and Latin music will be everlasting, as his songs and voice touched fans and fellow artists around the world.

Raul is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Betty; sons Dino, Victor, and Max, mother Norma, sister Carol, and Mavericks bandmates Paul Deakin, Eddie Perez, and Jerry Dale McFadden.

The family thanks everyone for their love & support, and asks for privacy at this time.

Rush guitarist and songwriter Alex Lifeson was born Aleksandar Živojinović in British Columbia, Canada on this day in 1953 (August 27)

Alex Lifeson was raised in Toronto by Serb immigrants from Yugoslavia.

As a kid, he played the viola, but abandoned it in favor of the guitar at the age of 12, inspired by his flamenco guitar-playing brother-in-law.

His first electric guitar was a Gretsch-looking 1967 Canora hollowbody (Lifeson recalls: “It cost $59, and my mom still has it!”)

When Lifeson was 17, he had an argument with his parents about his future; he wanted to drop out of high school to pursue his dream of becoming a professional guitarist.

Interestingly, a video of the argument was part of a 1973 Canadian documentary, Come On Children, about the struggles of 10 adolescents!

In 1968, he co-founded a band (which later became Rush) with school friend and drummer John Rutsey, and bass player and lead vocalist Jeff Jones.

One month later, Jones was succeeded by Geddy Lee and in 1974, Rutsey was succeeded by Neil Peart, at which point the lineup remained unchanged until the band's dissolution in 2018.

Alex Lifeson was the only member of Rush who stayed in the band throughout its entire existence, and he and Lee were the only members to appear on all of the band's albums.

Rush became known for their virtuosic musicianship, complex compositions, and mastery of a range of genres, particularly their brand of prog rock.

They’ve been one of the biggest bands in the world…

As of 2024, Rush ranks 90th commercially in the US, selling over 26 million albums, and were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2013.

Alex Lifeson was ranked 98th on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time and third (after Eddie Van Halen and Brian May) in a Guitar World readers' poll listing the 100 greatest guitarists.

Aside from music, Lifeson has been a painter, a licensed aircraft pilot, an actor, and the former part-owner of a Toronto bar and restaurant called The Orbit Room…

Guitar legend…

R.I.P. Mick Ralphs, the burly toned guitarist of Mott the Hoople and Bad Company fame, who has died at age 81 after a lengthy stay at a nursing home in England following a stroke he suffered in 2016. Ralphs died on Monday, according to a post on the Bad Company website.

After playing in blues bands in the early and mid-’60s, Ralph ascended into rock royalty with Mott the Hoople, which he helped form in 1969. It's his guitar that breathes lush musical life into their 1972 breakthrough album All the Young Dudes, which was produced by David Bowie. Ralphs left the next year to found Bad Company with rock vocal legend Paul Rodgers, and a string of huge hits built around his crushing guitar riffs resulted: “Can’t Get Enough,” “Rock Steady,” “Bad Company,” “Movin’ On,” “Feel Like Makin' Love,” and others that are now gems within the classic-rock canon.

In the ’80s, he toured with David Gilmour for the latter’s About Face album, and in subsequent years he was part of the re-formed Bad Company, played Mott the Hoople reunion shows, and formed the Mick Ralphs Blues Band. Till his performing career was ended by the paralysis that came with the stroke, he was a die-hard Gibson and Fender player, relying on Les Pauls, a Firebird, Teles, Strats, Esquires, and a Flying V for his most notable recordings.
