It’s not goodbye, it’s see you soon! 🪴🧶🧡

Hi everyone, Michaela here. I have some news to share, so please read on! 👇👇👇

To our friends, community, and followers, it’s with a heavy heart that I announce the closing of the Biss brick-and-mortar shop on Front Street in Salem.

Our final in-store shopping days will be from 11/2 - 11/4 and again on 11/8 and 11/9, with a special Biss After Dark event on 11/8—don’t miss it!

I opened Biss at 26 with a lot of big dreams, the support of my family and friends and a streak of fearlessness. Owning this shop has been a wild, exhilarating, and incredible journey! Along the way, I’ve built amazing connections, made lifelong friends, and helped so many of you find unique plants and home treasures.

I’ve tried my best to navigate the challenges of this year, but after months of careful consideration, I’ve made the difficult decision to close our storefront. It’s a bittersweet choice, but one that feels right for both me and the future of Biss.

But this isn’t the end for Biss! While we’re saying goodbye to the physical shop, Biss will continue to grow as a houseplant and textile hub. We’re pivoting to focus on popping up at all your favorite markets this Spring and Summer, especially Bloom in April! You’ll also still find us online and on social media, where we’ll share more content, support your plant needs, and have more space to get creative.

Fulfillment and joy are at the heart of this decision. I want Biss to be a source of inspiration and connection and I’m excited about the opportunities ahead. I hope you’ll stay with us for this next chapter! I’ll keep you updated on our plans and where you’ll find us next.

The support from our community has never been taken for granted. These are challenging times for many, but I’m optimistic about the future of Biss and excited to see where this journey leads us next.

So, it’s not goodbye, just see you soon—at outdoor markets, pop-ups, on social media, our online store, and beyond.

Thank you all for everything. We’d love to see you in the shop to say farewell, and remember, there is so much more Biss to come!

We’re throwing a party… tell your friends. 😉

We’ll be having sips and snacks and giving away Boy Smells goodies from matchboxes to wick trimmers!

Colorful blooms, leafy foliage, bold patterns and lush, mature specimens straight from the greenhouse. As always, all hand selected by us!

Taking a moment for gratitude in the ever tumultuous state of things! 🌸

We were just shared the photos from the amazing shows we attended in April! Truly we cannot say enough about how cool, kind and well done these events are. We gush every year about how grateful we are and how much excitement they bring. Thank you guys for all you do for small business!

I’m totally struck by these images - they really genuinely capture the energy of Biss.

The way we show up to talk about plants and textiles and the joy we want to share with our community.

The way year after year the same folks return back to our booth and update us on how their plants are and how they have grown.

The support we receive in preparing for Bloom, our biggest event of the season, is truly remarkable. And I’m always so taken by how everyone around us steps up to support us in the ways they can.

But maybe most importantly I want to say how grateful I am to my best friend, Jackie. My number one supporter, sidekick, shoulder.
My main squeeze, the zestiest of the zesty.
The most passionate little sprout.
Biss wouldn’t be here without you, period. 🧡

So your AC is cranking, humming away and doing its best to combat the sweltering summer heat outside. Despite the humid muggy air outside, your living room is starting to feel like a tundra.

You feel a little shiver and glance around the room. Your eyes land on your favorite blanket you picked up at a local shop in downtown Salem. A heavyweight, knit piece, laying invitingly on the couch across the room. It’s your trusty companion during movie nights and lazy Sundays and now offering a warm escape from the biting chill.

You pull the blanket from the couch and curl up. Immediately feeling the soft, comforting warmth. You shopped local, supported a small maker, purchased sustainably and look amazingly cool.

Now content and cozy, you decide maybe, you don’t mind the AC on full blast after all…

Biss Turns Three Years Old!
On June 5, 2021 a little plant shop called Biss Botanicals opened its doors in Reading, MA.

With a handful of plants, pots, candles and cards, (and an allnighter or two!) the doors opened and the rest is history, as they say!

Today, on June 5, 2024, Biss has since relocated to our new home in Salem and now has offerings from a local to global scale! This little shop has welcomed thousands and given us so many meaningful connections and moments, it’s hard to not get emotional about how one place could be so much to so many.

Happy Three to B and here’s to another thirty!
