Good news! Cleanup of Mackinac Island State Park is progressing well, with all major roads now open within the park. Landmarks such as Fort Holmes, Arch Rock, and Sugar Loaf are now accessible. As mentioned before, the park will be ready to go for the 2025 tourist season!

**ANNOUNCEMENT - RE: ICE STORM**

Northern Michigan was hit hard by recent ice storms, and Mackinac Island was no exception. The storm left behind quite a mess and there’s a lot of cleanup still to do. For us, this is mostly on interior trails and State Park land.

Rest assured, the Mackinac Island community, City and State Park are hard at work with a cleanup plan and the island will be open and ready to welcome visitors for the upcoming season starting April 25th into May.

We appreciate your patience and support as we get everything back in shape and we can't wait to see you soon on Mackinac Island—stronger and more beautiful than ever!

A majority of roads across Mackinac Island are closed and impassible after a historic ice storm in Northern Michigan last week.

An historic ice storm that did an incredible amount of damage to trees and the power grid across Northern Michigan has also left many of Mackinac Island’s beautiful interior trails and a big section of its iconic M-185 perimeter road impassable, state park officials say.

Teams from the National Guard are expected to make their way to the island soon to help with storm cleanup and tree work, but it’s unclear when that will happen, City Council members were told in a meeting this week.

For now, the state park land - which makes up more than 80% of the island - is mostly closed to visitors as the massive clean-up job continues, said Dominick Miller, chief of marketing for Mackinac State Historic Parks.
