Vibeke, our Storyteller Award winner for this month, made this lovely On The Go 2.0 and said, "My parents were not well off, and as a little girl I sensed that my mom felt a bit self-conscious about her inability to dress elegantly at my dad's work events.
In 1975, I embroidered a little bag with lots of birds using petit point for my mom, who was turning 60 years old. I added a bag loop in which I embroidered 1915-1975 to Mom from Vibeke.
My mom loved it.
When she died in 1995, I inherited the bag, but I do not use a formal little handbag. So I took it apart, and decided to use the embroidered front to stitch a second On The Go, but wanted to enlarge the height and width to be able to fit into it my binoculars as well as glasses. I omitted the vinyl pocket on the front.
I had already stitched the bag pattern in a neutral fabric line, and I love it, but because of my vision issue, I must have room for either my Solar Shield glasses during the day or my binoculars when we attend the theatre.
I still have the second face of the embroidery and will find a use for it too."
