Chatting Books Online, Saturday June 20, 2026. Today’s featured book is :Winnie-the-Pooh by A.A.Milne.

I am simply in love with this book. It combines an all time favorite , Pooh, and a lovely binding. First the book. It has a fairly extensive collection of stories and poems featuring our friends Pooh, Christopher Robin , and their compatriots as they venture out into the 100 Acre Woods (man, I thought that was a lot bigger as a child growing up in a city) including the very first poem to feature Pooh Bear. IT also has over 200 delightful illustrations and here is the kicker - the binding. It is part of the Word Cloud Classics collection from Canterbury Classics . You may have noticed a few of these before on a top shelf (near The Princess Bride) with their “Leather-like” covers featuring engraved words and phrases from the book but this one has something different - it has full color sprayed edges with scenes from Pooh and Christopher Robin’s adventures. Love it!!!!

The book is bound in a flexible leather-like cover. , it is 274 pages long and currently sells for $ 16.99 a copy.

Chatting Books Online Friday June 19, 2026. With the celebration on Juneteenth happening I decided that today’s featured book will be : Opal Lee and what it means to be Free with words by Alice Faye Duncan.

Not very many years ago legislation was signed making Juneteenth (June 19th) a National Holiday - a full 155 years after the first Juneteenth was celebrated .

I learned so much more about Juneteenth, and The Emancipation Proclamation by reading this little children’s book. I knew it took a while for word to spread that The Emancipation Proclamation had been signed and slavery was “ended “ but I had no idea it actually took over 2 years for word to reach some folks and for them to be freed. I also learned about the people who fought to tell the stories and have the day recognized as it should be. Pick up a copy of this book today to learn the story and share the story on Juneteeth.

This book is hardcover the size of a standard storybook and currently sells for $17.99 a copy.

To purchase a copy come see us at the shop during business hours or you can call or message me to have a copy shipped to you.

Chatting Books Online Thursday June 18, 2026. Today’s featured book is : BELIEVE: The Little Guide to Ted Lasso.

Since the world is soccer crazed watching The World Cup right now this seems a particularly appropriate time to share this little gift books of quotes. This one is about the AppleTV show Ted Lasso, our favorite American Football (actual football) turned English Football (Soccer) Coach ( aka Manager or Gaffer in the English system).

When I first saw this little book I thought it would just be quotes from the show - Tedisms if you will. And while there is some of that, it is mostly quotes from interviews of the characters (all of them) and critics , writers, and producers , about the show . So interesting to learn the backstory. And the Tedisms are pretty great too. Including my favorite here - I , after almost 8 years living a life deeply immersed in English Football, still have no idea what Offside means - and don’t bother trying to explain it to me , some of the best in the game have tried before you , I just don’t get it.

This small hardcover currently sells for $ 8.95 a copy.

To purchase a copy come see us at the shop during business hours or you can call or message me to have a copy shipped to you.

We are rescheduling tonight’s Bookclub to next Wednesday due to a proliferation of trees falling across roads due to this bad weather (my path to the bookstore blocked twice so far today as I tried to get there and back this morning - I feel it would be best to let trees fall or don’t as they wish without me , or you, on the roads below them ). . So if you haven’t read the book yet you’ve got a few more days to read it before we meet !

Chatting Books Online. Wednesday June 17, 2026 . Today’s featured book is: The Land of Sweet Forever by Harper Lee.

I have been in a mood lately for distinctly southern voices ( thanks in part to The Calamity Club ) and Harper Lee certainly fills that requirement . Released late last year this is a collection of stories and essays . The short stories are from Lee’s early career , later in the book there are also some non-fiction essays from later in her life.

Even the introduction is fascinating . It is written by Casey Cep . Casey Cep was a biographer appointed by Harper Lee herself to record her story and previously brought us the part true-crime ,/ part biography of Harper Lee / all an interesting read book The Furious Hours which if you have been following a while you probably remember me recommending in the past.

The short stories are just that , short. So it is a really nice book to read one story a day and spread out over a bit of time. And the stories are by Harper Lee , so you know they are well written, insightful and interesting. This is a must have in a beautiful hardcover addition for all fans of Southern Literature.

The book is currently available in hardcover . It is 187 pages long and sells for $30.00 a copy.

To order a copy, come see us at the shop during business hours, or you can call or message us to have a copy shipped to you.

Chatting Books Online, Tuesday June 16, 2026. Today’s featured book is : The Fatal Unpleasantness at Netherfield by Claudia Gray.

I am so happy to tell you that today is finally release day for the next book in the Mr. Darcy & Miss Tilney Mystery Series . You may recall that this series started with The Murder of Mr. Wickham which was set about 20 years after the end of Pride and Predjudice and brought together characters from all of Jane Austen’s novels where Jonathan Darcy, the son of Elizabeth and Fitzwilliam Darcy meets Juliet Tilney (of the Northanger Abbey Tilneys) and together they solve the mystery surrounding Wickham’s mysterious death.

Here in book 5 of the series Jonathan has returned to his mother’s hometown to visit his Aunt and Uncle who are once again ensconced at Netherfield and is once again called upon to solve a mystery - of course he will need to summon Miss Tilney to assist! This book is everything a cosy mystery should be and perfect on a rainy day with a cup of tea so come pick up a copy of the book and put the kettle on because today (and indeed most of this week) is tailor made for cosy mystery reading!

The book is paperback it is 306 pages long and currently sells for $ 19.00 a copy.

Chatting Books Online, Monday June 15, 3026. Today’s featured book is : A Day the War Stopped : The Story of a Civil War Truce by James Linden Hogg,

This past weekend the commemoration of The Day the War Stopped was held here in St Francisville . Over the years you may have picked up tidbits of the story of the day in June of 1863 when Freemasons from both sides of the Civil War came together in St Francisville to hold the funeral of Lieutenant Commander John Elliot Hart of the USS Albatross . Now you can get the entire story from back then, to how it is commemorated today from James Linden Hogg , a historian having earned both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in history from Louisiana State University (who also happens to be a talented singer and songwriter as well).

Enjoy the story in this well researched paperback book available at The Conundrum bookshop . The book is 155 pages long and currently sells for $30.00 a copy.

Chatting Books Online Saturday June 13, 2026. . Today’s featured book is The Awakening by Kate Chopin.

I heard this week that this book is on a summer reading list for schools in the area and so it has been on my mind.

It is one of those books that has been a part of my life for a long , long time. If you had asked me my favorite book back when I was in college I would have probably answered “The Awakening by Kate Chopin” ( also possible I would have answered A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole or Love in the Ruins by Walker Percy , but I digress).
When I was in college I saw the book through the eyes of a young, single woman and identified with the strength of the main character claiming rights over her life. When I re-read the book in my late 20’s early 30’s I saw it differently but still admired her strength. When I have read it again years later I was angry with the infidelity in the story, and finally when I read it again in recent years I find a sadness to it, particularly in the end (won’t ruin it and tell you why).
Originally written in 1899 and set between Grand Isle and New Orleans this book was considered shocking at publication. This book is many things to many people - and many things to the same person depending on where you are in life when you read it, and isn’t that hopefully true of all great literature?
In my opinion not only a vital part of Southern Fiction, but of Great Literature writ large.

We carry this book in 2 paperback and 2 hardcover editions ranging in cost from $4 to $27 a copy.
To purchase these, or any other books - or puzzles - you can stop in the shop during normal business hours, or you can message me and I can invoice you online and ship a copy directly to you. Thanks for reading.
