The Irish Gift Shop

The Irish Gift Shop You don't have to be Irish to LOVE it here!! Authentic Irish gifts, Celtic jewelry, family heritage The history of The Irish Gift Shop! building at 139 St.
(1)

Patricia (Limerick) and Joe (Dublin) Maher opened the Irish Gift Shop (formerly known as The House of Ireland) in 1984. Within two years the Mahers expanded into a 3,000 square ft. George Street on the corner of Treasury. Joe Maher was one of the founding members of the Hibernia Regiment, a group of Historical Reenactment actors that celebrate the 400-year-old Celtic heritage of St. Augustine. The

store flourished for many years and in 2001 the Mahers decided to retire and sold the business to David & Jan Perkins from Dublin Ireland. Grace Reed acquired the business in 2015 and in 2016 moved into the current location in a Victorian building at 26 Cuna Street. As luck would have it, Shane and Michelle Pierce who had been customers themselves for 15 years acquired the business April of 2022. The Pierce family are continuing to bring in unique items from Ireland and Scotland.

This morning I said, “James Brown, I need one good picture to help you get adopted,” and apparently he took that very seriously. He hopped into the kiddie pool (no water needed), looked right at me, and said, “Here you go!”

He is friendly, goofy, and clearly willing to do whatever it takes to find a home.

Come make his “I understood the assignment” moment worth it.

🇮🇪 You know you’re Irish when a goodbye takes twenty minutes.

First at the door. Then at the gate. Then through the car window - and somehow the conversation is still going halfway down the road.

There’s always one last story, warning, or bit of news before anyone finally leaves.

The 1926 Census of Ireland goes online tomorrow, opening a unique window into life in the early Irish Free State.

For the first time, the public can explore detailed records showing how people lived, worked, and built their lives after a decade of major change and upheaval. From family structures to occupations and language use, it offers a powerful snapshot of a nation in transition, available to search on the National Archives of Ireland website.
