What an incredible night celebrating 30 years of Thievery Corporation!
Rob Garza and Eric Hilton have been a major influence on me and on the evolution of electronic music over the past three decades. When their debut album, Sounds From the Thievery Hi-Fi, was released in 1996, it quickly became one of our best-selling titles at Modern Music. It was a groundbreaking record that helped define the downtempo and trip-hop sound for a generation of listeners and DJs.
Seeing those songs performed live 30 years later was a powerful reminder of just how timeless and influential their music remains. Their blend of dub, lounge, bossa nova, jazz, world music, and electronic beats created a sound that was truly unique and inspired countless artists that followed.
A special bonus was getting to catch up with Rob Garza and seeing him again after all these years. It was also great to share the evening with so many friends and to watch Sasha Bloom kick things off with an outstanding opening DJ set. She absolutely crushed it!
