Next week we will be wrapping up our summer hours and moving into Fall. I have been reading great discussions about how best to help Main Street thrive and two frequent comments concern hours and online shopping.
So I want your opinion and I know my fellow Main Streeters will be watching, so this is your chance.
Monday - We are usually open Mondays only during November and December. We haven’t tested whether Mondays work in this location. What do you think? Would you shop on Mondays?
Opening time - We open 10am every day. Sales are minimal before 11am. Should we keep our current 10am or shift to 10:30? Open at 9, like we did when we were next to the coffee shop?
Closing time - We are open until 6pm most days. We have been open until 7pm Tuesday for 2-3 years because Silent Book Club meets 5:30-7pm. Nobody shops after 6. We have joined our fellow Main Street Merchants this summer in being open until 7pm on Friday. That’s worked well for us. Would you shop if we were open until 7 every evening?
Saturday - We are open 10-2pm on Saturday. Our sales are mostly 11am - 1pm but sometimes we’re here as late as 4pm because people are shopping. How late should we be open on Saturday?
Did you know you can shop online? Right now you can shop for books, ebooks and audiobooks via my Bookshop or Libra pages. This option gives you access to millions of books I don’t have the space to carry while still supporting your local bookstore. Those links are on my page and my website.
I can set up shopping on the bookstore website. I tested this once, but the sales didn’t cover the cost of creating the online store. If this is how you want to shop though, I will try again.
Many of you already shop via my page by reaching out when you see something you like. I can add a link on my posts to my bookstore page if you want to shop that way.
