Barbara Ellen Watermelon Designs Handcrafted felted wearable and/or usable fiber art and accessories, such as hats, purses, scarves, pins, dog jackets, etc.

Owner/Designer, Barbara Williams, is a retired Sr. Manager of a Fortune 100 Company who now has the time to indulge her passion for creating wearable and/or usable works of art. She is a former military brat and the eldest of six children. As a child, her oldest brother used to call her "Barbara Ellen Watermelon". Who would have thought that a childhood taunt would turn into a successful business?

Barbara has been creating clothing and wearable art since she first began sewing at ten years old. She was introduced to felting by her extended family , owners and designers of A Few Good Bananas, located in Elbridge, NY. The Bananas definitely know how to make felting fun--not to mention addictive.

My latest project—a collage jacket made from seven different cotton fabrics, fully lined with a fusible fleece backing. It has a small pocket matched to the exterior fabric and a custom-made fish button at the neck. It’s accessorized with a custom-dyed silk scarf. Many thanks to June Colburn of the Tampa Bay Surface Design Guild for her expert advice on how to create fabric collages.

This started out as a handwoven shawl. I converted it into a poncho by cutting it in half, fringing the cut edges, flipping the front panel, and sewing it together at the shoulders. Voila! Now it just slips on over my head and stays in place effortlessly.
