Here in Wyoming there is a lot of enthusiasm about our phone prefix 307. In South Dakota it is 605. In Montana it is 406. Is it popular where you are from? I worked up a new design tonight for Wyoming. Do you want to see yours? Text yours for a preview!

Spent a little time in the shop again this evening shaping and grinding a cable Damascus billet int a knife shaped object. Then spent a little time giving Pete a few pointers on running the belt sander to shape a 99 layer Damascus billet into a knife shaped object. It was a good night.. I need to spend a little more time grinding to get back to form. But I am pretty happy with where I am at now.

The first picture is of a knife I came across online. I screenshot it so that the guy who made it gets credit for it. The second picture is of either my 3rd or 4th attempt at forging a stainless San Mai blade. This is the first one I shaped and ground. It is only lightly test etched. so it as not as dark as it will be in a finished product. I am very pleased with the results so far but I have a couple bugs to work out. There must be a lot of internal stress in the billets after forging because it started out straight but developed about a quarter inch warp during grinding as material was removed.

Finished this project and mounted it today. I am very pleased with how it came out. What do you all think?

It felt good to get back in the shop today and work up this knife for Kevin Lanyon. He has been a fan of my work for a while and he enjoyed hanging out at the shop and helping make it. It is a some assembly required project. Shaped and ground the blade, heat treated the 5160 steel and sanded down to 600 grit and then put a satin finish on it with a scotch brite belt. Then cut and shaped the handle from some black and white ebony. Now he just has to temper it and sand it and install and finish the handle when he gets back home to Colorado.
