Today we celebrate 18 years of serving the fly fishing community, and our hearts are full of gratitude.

This milestone would never have been possible without the incredible people who have made this shop what it is. Over the past 18 years, more than 30 employees have been part of our team, and every single one of them has been a high-quality person who brought passion, character, and dedication to our shop. You were never just employees—you became family.
From our very first employee, Matt Bennett Matt Bennett , to our newest team member, Michael, thank you for serving our customers and community so well. Each of you has left a lasting impact on this fly shop, and we are grateful for the role you’ve played in our story.

We also want to give a special shout-out to our parents, Chris and Sharelee. Eighteen years ago, you believed in Christopher’s dream of opening this fly shop and stood beside him every step of the way. Through countless hours of work, prayer, sacrifice, and service, you helped build the foundation that has carried us through nearly two decades. We can never thank you enough.

And to Melody—our glue. The one who has held it all together through the years. We love you and are beyond thankful for everything you have poured into this shop, our team, and the local fly fishing community. Your dedication, care, and heart have touched more lives than you know.

As we celebrate 18 years, we are reminded that this shop has never been about a building or a business. It’s about people, relationships, friendships, and a shared love for fly fishing.

To every employee, customer, friend, and family member who has been part of this journey—thank you. We are honored to serve this community and excited for what the future holds.

Here’s to 18 years and many more to come.

Over the past 18 years, Living Waters Fly Fishing has provided nearly 9,000 hours of free fly fishing education through our shop alone.

Education has always been a high priority for Chris and Emily. As a child, Chris learned to fly fish by checking out free books from the Round Rock Public Library. Those experiences shaped a lifelong passion for fishing, conservation, and sharing knowledge with others.

That spirit of learning remains at the heart of our fly shop today. Through free classes, workshops, and community events, our goal is to teach people not only how to fly fish, but also how to become better stewards of our rivers, streams, and natural resources. We hope that by connecting people to the outdoors, we can help protect these precious resources for future generations.

Have you attended one of our free classes over the years? We’d love to hear from you! What was your favorite class, and what impacted you the most?

And most importantly, we invite you to join us this Saturday as we celebrate 18 years of Living Waters Fly Fishing!

Eighteen years ago, a 21-year-old named Chris took a leap of faith and opened a fly shop with a dream, a passion for fly fishing, and more determination than resources.

The early years weren’t easy. There were plenty of challenges, long days, and moments when success was far from guaranteed. But through it all, our local fly fishing community showed up. You trusted us, supported us, and helped keep our doors open when it mattered most.

Over the years we’ve called a few places home, and after two moves we’ve finally settled into our current shop in the heart of downtown Round Rock. What started as a dream has grown into something much bigger than a business—it’s become a gathering place for anglers, friends, families, and a community that shares a love for the water.

We’ve had the privilege of serving, teaching, outfitting, and learning alongside the incredible fly fishing community that surrounds us.

As we celebrate our 18th year, our hearts are full of gratitude. None of this would have been possible without you.
We’d love for you to join us as we celebrate this milestone:

🐍 FUN FACT: That snake swimming alongside you isn’t always a bad thing!

Meet the Diamondback Water Snake—the largest water snake in North America and a common sight on rivers, lakes, and streams throughout Texas. Often mistaken for a Diamondback Rattlesnake or Cottonmouth, this non-venomous fish-eater is actually a valuable part of the ecosystem.

You can identify it by the dark diamond-shaped chain pattern running down its back and its rough, keeled scales. When startled, it may flatten its head, hiss, and puff up its body to look more intimidating—but that’s all part of its bluff! Its first choice is usually to slip back into the water and swim away.

As fly anglers, this is the time of year we start sharing the water with snakes, so knowing the difference between friend and foe is important. The Diamondback Water Snake is harmless to people, helps keep aquatic ecosystems balanced, and deserves a little respect—not fear.

So next time you spot one cruising the bank while you’re chasing fish, remember: it’s fishing too.

Exploring local Texas fishing destinations led us to an unexpected gem — Chalk Ridge Falls.

It’s only a short 0.3-mile hike to a beautiful spring-fed waterfall and chilly crystal-clear creek. The scenery alone is worth the trip, but what really caught my attention was what was swimming below the surface.

Of course, the one time I don’t bring a fly rod is the day I spot several nice-sized bass and more sunfish than I could count. Rumor has it that Mountain Mullet are the creek too! Needless to say, I was kicking myself the entire hike back.

If you’re looking for a quick adventure with great fishing potential, this spot deserves a place on your list. Make sure to go early because this is a very popular swimming hole!

Comment “Belton” and we’ll send you the location, recommended gear, and the flies we’d bring for targeting these fish.
