Amazing showing from 144 legislators across 39 states in support of DOE's gas furnace efficiency proposed rule that, if adopted, will increase the efficiency of furnaces and lead to a reduction in GHG emissions as well as lower consumers' utility bills!

State legislators support a federal gas furnace efficiency rule to benefit the climate, improve health, and lower energy costs Over 140 members of the National Caucus of Environmental Legislators, representing 39 states, have submitted a letter to the U.S. Department of Energy in support of a propos...

Did you know that heating is the largest utility cost for most US households? Outdated, inefficient gas furnaces are simultaneously generating high energy bills that burden low-income households and emitting millions of tons of greenhouse gases.
The Department of Energy is preparing a new furnace efficiency standard—an opportunity to phase out the least efficient models. An updated standard could significantly cut greenhouse gas emissions and reduce the average heating bill by $100/year for households replacing an inefficient furnace. This would be a big win for consumers, the climate, and public health.

ASAP and our allies at American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy, NRDC, National Consumer Law Center, Consumer Federation of America and CLASP urge DOE to finish repealing harmful Trump-administration efficiency standards regulation in this joint letter to the agency.

For some rules, DOE is guaranteed to miss the deadline; for others, there is a very strong likelihood. Delaying these rules delays the entire efficiency standards program, needlessly deferring immense consumer and environmental benefits.

NRDC, along with The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy, the Appliance Standards Awareness Project, CLASP, the Consumer Federation of America, and the National Consumer Law Center, just submitted a letter to Secretary Granholm at the Department of Energy (DOE)...

The Department of Energy (DOE) finalized a rule today ensuring that showerheads do not needlessly use more water than Congress directed nearly three decades ago, undoing a loophole created by the previous administration. To date, few manufacturers have chosen to produce products that exploit the loophole, but such showerheads could waste water and the energy used to heat it.
