When it comes to my flock, I want to give them more than just basic feed. Since my hens are just starting to lay, I switched their feed to Kalmbach Henhouse Reserve because good nutrition is an important part of keeping my chickens happy, healthy, and thriving. ❤️🐔

🌱Yesterday, (for the first time!)I made 12 jars of homemade basil pesto! Each batch of 4 cups of basil made 4-4oz. jars. I made 2 batches using pine nuts, which I forgot to toast, and 1 batch using pecans. I decided against canning because they say if you can pesto you have to use the rebel canning method and that it’s just safer to freeze, plus it’s much easier! I also left out the parmesan, and will add it in when ready to use. 🌱😊🤙🏻

❤️🥚Just a few moments ago (after waiting 128 days!), I heard my chickens singing the egg laying song (if you know, you know), so I grabbed my camera and ran out recording to catch the moment I found my first egg on camera. I just sat down to upload the video except for there is no video. I guess I wasn’t recording and missed it all. 😒😩

So anyway,,,, at least I got a picture of my first egg from this flock! It’s a small egg so I know it had to come from one of the silkies and I am suspecting it came from Ms. Frizzle since she was the closest one to it when I went out to the coop.

We are still working on the permanent coop so unfortunately, they are still in their temporary coop. I went ahead and put nesting boxes in there with them and the oyster shells that I ordered should be here any day and I just switched their feed to a layer feed. So excited for more eggs!!🥚🍳🐣
