Gouging bassoon cane? Consider these 4 things:

1. Before splitting the tube, find the pairs of narrow and wide curves
2. Split along a diagonal axis to separate the narrow and wide curves
3. Check the diameter of each piece
4. Only use pieces which are within 1mm of the size of your gouger bed for the most accurate results
