"Why should I hire a professional piano tuner?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You can tune your own piano if you have the ear, skill, and experience. However, improperly tuning your piano can very easily result in damaging tuning pins to the point they'll no longer hold position. You can also break a string, which can result in serious physical injury. Each string holds 175 lb of tension force, and when one pops you don't want an arm or a leg in the way of a fast-flying razor-sharp steel string! Play safe and have an experienced professional take the best care of your piano.
In addition, the force exerted upon the piano frame by the collective ~230 strings is almost 20 tons! Improperly tuning some pianos can result in warped or cracked soundboards.
An experienced piano tuner will carefully get to know your instrument, and if you maintain the tune of your piano regularly, you'll ensure great tone and preserve it's condition for years to come. Contact me to get your keys back N-tune, and I'll add your piano to the WNtune extended family!
"Why does my piano need 2 tunings?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Neglected pianos usually require multiple successive tunings to 'train' the strings. The first tuning will likely take longer to complete than on a maintained instrument as well; up to ~4 hours. The piano will sound better after the first tuning, but plan to schedule a full re-tuning in the near future in order to achieve the best possible results. After that, it is likely your piano can be tuned either seasonally or yearly. You can also choose to simply re-tune at your discretion, although more regular maintenance will yield a tighter, better playing instrument in any case.

"Are there any additional fees?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In rare cases where the piano is in extremely bad condition, 2-3 hours of additional service time will be required to correct the problem and a $50 fee will be added to the base rate. These cases may include: the tuning pins are serviceable but loose; the strings are no longer supple and risk breaking; or the overall tone has been raised/lowered a semitone or more due to neglect or previous improper tuning maintenance.
If you live outside of the service area (~60 miles from Rome, GA) there will be a fuel surcharge to compensate for the distance.
Contact me today and ask all the questions about your piano and let's get your keys back N-tune!
"Why do I need to be quiet during a tuning?"
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Tuning a piano requires a precisely trained ear to detect tonal nuances, and the slightest movement applied to the tuning hammer can make for drastic changes in pitch. These adjustments can be made in error if outside noise pollutes the workspace while adjusting each tuning pin. It's generally impossible to eliminate all the noises of a household, but if we can cut out ambient noises like television, radio, traffic, fans, or other white-noise type sources, the tuning process is much easier to complete. In addition, the quieter it is, the faster I work!
Simply find a convenient ~4 hour block of time when your household noise will be at a minimum, then send me a message to make a service call and get your piano back 'N-tune'!
"How long will service take?"
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
To appropriately tune every instrument to be 'in-tune' but also 'true-to-itself', service can require 2-3+ hours of working time. This time is doubled for pianos that must be raised or lowered one semitone or more to correct an extreme issue. Don't worry though, this is rare! Most pianos only requiring normal tuning maintenance can be adjusted within a couple of hours!
We can get that piano back 'N-tune' in no time, so don't hesitate and send a message to schedule an appointment now!
"Will I have to retune my piano often?"
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Every piano has different characteristics that depend upon the age and construction of the instrument, as well as the climate where it sits; humidity, temperature cycles, sunlight, even how often the piano is played will affect the materials that are responsible for sounding tone. These factors also determine how well a piano will stay in-tune. Maintaining tuning through regular service calls either yearly or seasonally will yield the best possible results on any instrument. When I perform your own first tuning service, I'll give you free bonus tips on to help your piano continue to stay in-tune as long as possible to maximize your investment.
