Ever wondered how exactly the fine lines on your instrument are made?

Purfling refers to 3 layers of pearwood- two died black, sandwiched around one regular strip. This is maleable enough to curve around the violin's edges. Some are just painted on, but others are carefully inlaid. Take a look at your instrument to see if you can find the tiny details of purfling!

- 70-75mm of silver wire (weighing at about 5g) can reduce some of the vibrations in the stick, making this and other preferred metals some of the most durable.

On the right is faux whale bone winding...
