Today was our last day at Zoet in Rochester. it was a day with mixed feelings. We are closing but still we stay in business just not with a storefront for now. We do realize this will be different, but the shortage in staff made us do this.
Thank you... to all of you! Some of you walked in once a month, some every other week, some every week and some a couple of times a week. Like every Saturday morning this nice family walked in starting with 2 kids, soon they will have 4 kids. thank you for the note this morning and the big hug. Or the dad who did bring his kids on Saturday noon for a waffle and chocolates after tennis class . The mom who promised her son a Zoet chocolate fondue when he would read enough books in summer, he was supermotivated to reach his goal. I had always so much fun with that boy. All such nice kids. We had tons of nice kids over who discovered what Belgian chocolate means.
That special Belgian one, and het husband,, who supported us through covid, took Zoet treats on every occasion and did spread the word for us.
The nice couple who came in for their espresso and a conversation, they became so dear to us. Same for the nice lady that came in a couple of times a week. So crazy about our croissants, she couldn't miss them, so she even froze them baked and reheated them later...we had to try that as well! The sisters who often came in together, even on the last day. Seeing their eyes sparkling when they got a chocolate mousse with their drinks, think about us when you are using our teapot or sitting on our chairs.
That extra treat with our drinks was so popular, many people were looking forward to it and even more when it was an experimental one. Seeing people discover our new flavors, the look on their faces when they tried it. Two of them please...two of each of every flavor they picked otherwise their partner would fight over not having one. "Let Rob do it, he knows what I want." These are some of the memories to the shop and restaurant we keep forever and there are so many more, thank you for that.
So many of you signed up for our mailing list the last weeks, so many came in to buy more and more and ...more. It was so busy the last weeks, I made so much chocolate over the last weeks I never expected that, and was a bit overwhelmed, it was incredible. That shows us how much you all appreciate good chocolate.
Rob was there from day one and he is still here to close with me. Some looked weird when they saw a boy in a chocolate shop, but now everyone likes him. If he wasn't around, people asked for him. "Can Rob help me, he does such a great job" He knew what he was doing, took care of all of you in the shop and the restaurant. Indeed he did a great job. I couldn't have done this without him.
My other son Axel did more behind the scenes: website, cameras and alarm, hanging things, giving a second opinion.... He and his fiancee Kim showed up on the busy days when we needed an extra pair of hands in the shop: Christmas time, Eastern, Mother's Day. These were always crazy busy days but we always enjoyed that time as a family working together. Without the 3 of you Zoet would never have opened.
Rob and I will miss the conversations, the laughter we had together, the memories we made. We met so many nice people and we are looking forward to keep in contact with you.
September is my time off and in October I re-install the chocolate room, so we will be back for the Holidays! We are looking forward to see you all back!
