Yesterday we enjoyed walking tacos and dirty sodas with our admin team in Harrisburg, and it was every bit as good as it sounds!

But the real treat? Taking time to connect with each other and have some fun!

Did you know that our local Goodwill Keystone Area saved 51.8 million pounds of materials from ending up in landfills last year? And they recycled one million pounds of cardboard?! You could say they're a 🍃 keystone 🍃 of building sustainable communities.

“Where do you keep everything you thrift?!”
Since I bring a lot of thrift finds home every week I have to have a great organization system in place. And heads up, these rules apply to anything you want to keep organized!

1. Have a dedicated place to store overstock/overflow like the cabinets in my basement.
2. If I can’t fit anymore or can’t see everything, it’s time to purge! I make 3 piles - gift, donate, & sell at secondhandsquad.net
3. Put things back, arranging like with like and making sure everything can be seen!
4. Take donations to or your own local NONPROFIT to ensure your donations stay local!
5. Might as well pop into the thrift store to see what’s new 😉

We had a blast joining Representative Smith-Wade-El's at Saturday's Community Shredding & Donation Event in Lancaster! ♻️

The community showed up to safely shred documents AND drop off donations, including clothing, household goods, and electronics. Neighbors also brought us nonworking and broken electronics to be recycled responsibly FOR FREE!

Every item donated helps fund job training and employment programs across 22 counties in PA. Thank you to all of our generous donors!

One of our favorite donation events of the year is the 999 THE HAWK Spring Cleaning Yard Sale at SteelStacks in Bethlehem! Last weekend, generous donors at the event filled 17 large containers that have been sent to our Lehigh Valley stores to support our mission.

🎉 WHAT A GREAT DAY IN MIDDLETOWN! 🎉

Huge thanks to Sen. Patty Kim, Rep. David Madsen, and PA State Rep. Tom Mehaffie for hosting last weekend's Shred & Donation Collection Event and to everyone in the community who came out to participate! ♻️

Together, we collected an incredible amount of donations and even had a surprise visit from Santa! A special shoutout to our President & CEO Ed Lada for bringing lunch that kept the whole crew energized, and to our amazing local retail team members for making the day run smoothly.

🌍 WHAT AN EARTH DAY TO REMEMBER! 🌱

This past Wednesday, we welcomed over 70 students and chaperones to our very first Earth Day Celebration, and what a day it was!

HIGHLIGHTS:
🔹 Seed planting with the Dauphin County Master Gardeners (Black-Eyed Susans and Micro Dwarf Tomato Plants!)
🔹 Hands-on activities with ~10 local environmental organizations
🔹 Warehouse and distribution center tours showing sustainability in action
🔹 A scavenger hunt through our Outlet Center
🔹 A special Q&A with Jessica Shirley, facilitated by Andrew Gackenbach

A huge thank you to the students and staff from Central Dauphin High School's 9th Grade Environmental Science and AP Environmental Science classes, Project SEARCH and Neighboring Academy, and our local homeschool community for making this day so special. 💙

Thank you also to our tabling partners and the Dauphin County Master Gardeners for bringing the learning to life.
