Howdy PURPLE DEAD NETTLE: Wild Free Food

Purple Dead Nettle, scientifically called Lamium purpureum, is a hardy annual of the Lamiaceae family. Look for it in lawns, gardens, meadows, and other human-made sites in full sun to part shade. It prefers rich, fertile soil; tolerates most. Hardiness Zones (USDA): 4¬–8

Culinary Uses
Leaf, tender stem, flower spike: raw in salad; cooked in soup, stew, sauté, frittata, casserole.
Flower: raw in salad, butter, as general garnish.
Qualities: earthy, dirt-mushroom like flavor.
