Who remembers the Dan Armstrong Orange Squeezer. The original Armstrong "box" was a little difficult to use in practice, but a great sounding "pedal" nevertheless. Pedals? We got pedals. Got $6,000 for an original? Cool. Don't? Still cool! The Redfish Electronics Klone is a Centaur/Klon (pcb by Aion FX, hand stuffed and soldered in SWFL!)virtual clone of the Klon® Centaur Professional Overdrive and its successor, the KTR. uses the correct true/buffer switch wiring from the original unit. Several other projects use a simpler wiring method that does not preserve the original circuit in buffered mode, which was one of the inventor’s stipulations. DEMO yours at the Bradenton Guitar Show THIS Sept 21st and 22nd!

The question came up about relief and “how much relief?” Thinking about it (and trying to come up with some snarky response) I thought about my fishin musician buddy Kevin.

Having done over 10,000 setups over 55 years, listen to these words: the RIGHT amount of relief is how YOUR guitar plays and sounds for YOU. A decade or so ago, I setup a few guitars that were shipped in to a remote location for an insane weekend of fly fishing, imbibing, and jamming! I setup the lead guitarist’s strat the way I would “normally” set one up out of the box. This guy I won’t name but I consider him one of the best players I’ve encountered, upon plugging it in: “WTF set this guitar up??” I fessed up. “Nah nah, lemme show u how to setup a guitar!” NO relief and strings nearly touching the frets, a stiff breeze could play Zappa tunes. I strum the guitar, it sounds like a toasted banjo. Two other guys can’t bend a string without some fret complaining! He plugs it into a proto 22 watt Magnatone everything on 12, no pedals, the guitar sings like an eagle soars… So, in his words: “Screw relief!”
