D Street Gunsmithing, previously The G***k Doc, Inc., was incorporated in 2009 as a gunsmithing business servicing Southern California. The owner Dave Street is a 30-year retired detective and life-time gun enthusiast. He handled collateral duties as a station range master and fi****ms trainer. Dave is also a competitive shooter in action pistol and three-gun matches for more than 35 years. Upon retirement, he started this company servicing both civilian and police fi****ms. Dave maintains a table at many of the Southern California gun shows working on guns and selling gun related products. See page 1 for a schedule. As of 2011, Dave has expanded his business to selling police trade-in fi****ms. As is typical of many police trade-in's, these weapons often have visible holster wear, but minimal actual use. For many officers who are not gun enthusiasts, their pistols are only used for quarterly qualifications and occasional fi****ms update training. A typical qualification requires only 25 to 30 rounds meaning the guns are fired only 100 to 120 rounds a year. It's no surprise many of these guns are in great shape, especially since many departments clean & inspect issued weapons annually. Dave markets these guns on www.gunsamerica.com under the company name D Street Gunsmithing, previously "The G***k Doc." Keep an eye on this web site as additional guns are constantly being added for sale. Dave has published many magazines articles about police issues. His gun related articles were published by "American Cop" in their Nov-Dec 2011 issue on G***k Maintenance and their July-Aug 2012 issue on Sig Pistol Maintenance.

Just finished the R***r Certification Courses in the Mini-14 & Mini-30 rifles. This rifles has made great improvements in accuracy, yet it maintains it's excellence in quality and reliability. It has also grown from its standard 5.56x45 cartridge to include advanced calibers such as 6.8 SPC, .300 Blackout & 7.62x39 (in the Mini-30 model). Also, the standard wood stock has progressed to a stronger polymer stock and the rear sights have been improved.

I also finished the R***r Certification Course for their double-action revolvers including the Security Six, GP-100, SP-101 & Redhawk. These are solid, reliable guns built to a high standard and they range from .22 to .44 Magnum to .480 R***r Magnum in calibers.

Just finished the S&W Revolver course which covered all J, K, L & N frame revolvers. Great guns. I still carry a J-frame model 60 5-shot .38 for conceal carry as many of the retired officers do. It may be small, but the model 60 offers 5 sure shots.

On most semi-auto pistols, if your slide locks back and won't go forward into battery, it could be a bulge in your barrel. Typically this occurs when there was an obstruction in the barrel when you fire it. For example, you fire the gun, but instead of getting a loud bang and recoil, you hear a suppressed sissing sound with little to no recoil. This is caused when just the primer goes off and there's no gun powder in the round to push the round out. Often the bullet will only go half way up the barrel and lodge in it. If you fire another round, this obstruction will frequently bulge or rupture the barrel and lock up the weapon. The bulge is usually severe and the barrel will no longer fit through the front hold in the slide that holds it. Another cause is from shooting lead bullets from barrels with polygonal rifling like on a G***k pistol. Lead is deposited inside the barrel and can eventually cause an obstruction resulting in a slight bulge like in the below picture. It might be hard to see, but the dimensions between a slide and barrel and very tight. This barrel had to be replaced.

The S&W M&P pistol is a full size 9mm or .40 caliber battle gun commonly used by security and law enforcement agencies. It comes with three (3) backstraps to adjust the grip to different size hands. It's a very comfortable gun to shoot, but one common problem is how the right pad on it's ambidextrous slide stop breaks off. It's easy to fix, but a common problem.

Just finished the certified factory training courses on both the SIG P365 and SIG P320 pistols. The P365 is a sub-compact which holds 12 + 1 rounds of 9mm ammo for conceal carry. The P320 is a full-size duty gun which holds 21 + 1 rounds of 9mm ammo. Both have modular internal chassis designs meaning you can pick the frame that best fits your hand and then install the chassis into it. The P320 has four modular frame sizes that will fit any hand. This is one reason why the US Army chose the P320 as their new combat handgun. This is a radical new design in handguns and definitely the wave of the future.

I don't know why, but current gun manufactures are using more and more tiny spring in their guns. Here's some spring from a CZ-75 SP-01 9mm pistol that are so small, it takes tweezers to handle them. The same is true of Sig P320's and P365's. If you're going to remove the firing pin to clean the firing pin channel, don't. Once those springs launch, you'll never recover them and it takes weeks to order more. Just a word to the wise, Dave.

The Sig P238 & 938 are great little conceal carry pistols. Compact and reliable, the P238 is a .380 while the P938 is a 9mm. They're both single-action which is a different than most duty guns and like all guns, they break on occasion. Here's a stainless P238 that broke its sear spring. It's not an easy gun to work on and you have to be careful when removing the safety. The detent that indexes the safety will launch if you're not careful and it takes weeks to get a new one since they're impossible to find. I keep a supply of extra detents for just that occasion.

Here's proof that you shouldn't use your shotgun for a pry tool. I couldn't figure out why the bolt action of a Re*****on 1100 shotgun had locked up. I found that the action link was broken (see picture). When I pulled off the rear stock, I found that the tube which housed the action spring that powered the bolt was bent (see picture). It wasn't much of a bend, but enough to jam up the gun and break internal parts. Go figure.
