We've been thinking about root cellars lately. If a situation occurs and you need to be able to grow and store food for the long-haul, a root cellar is a great idea. Not only that, but potatoes are extremely easy to grow and have almost every nutrient you need to survive. Supplement it with some other vegetables and fruit and you'll have the ability to survive. One of the tutorials on building a root cellar is linked below. It's a 2-part video from Simple Living Alaska and very informative. Apparently, they did this whole build for about $1300!

There are plenty of cool projects you can do on the homestead with PVC. Homestead Survival Site put together a nice list of some of those projects! Check it out for some fun ideas.

While you may see PVC pipe in your home being used for plumbing lines, it has a lot of other uses that help organize and simplify work on the homestead.
