Have you been wondering where weāve been? Why you havenāt seen any Lives lately?
Well, I decided mid August that I was taking some time to hang with my tweedles before school started back again. I didnāt want any extra distractions for them. Now that school is back, I have a minute while theyāre gone to tell you lots of things!
If weāre being honest....
Social Media selling feels very empty and if you have a moment to spend in our real life store, youāll quickly understand what I mean.
A few things Iāve learned in the last six weeks....
Selling people clothes is personal. It should be personal. It should be considerate, and true. It should leave us both feeling a certain way. For the customer- confident and happy and good about themselves. For us- satisfied we did something good for someone and left them a little better than when we found them.- We cannot sell you something the way it should be done if we donāt know how it fits you or if it suits your style or how it makes you feel. I canāt ever learn what you like, what you love, what you hate or what suits you best with a screen and a camera between us.
Iāve spent 20 years trying to hone the very best in store customer service experience anyone could hope for and Iāve learned so much along the way, building a store family that I never expected....in 6 weeks (ok, if weāre being honest, more like 6 minutes) I learned that selling online, in front of a camera, unable to truly connect with the customers is NOT for me.
I absolutely, without a doubt, 100% prefer personal, one on one customer service. There is nothing like exchanging a smile, a hug or some tears with people who stopped by ājust lookingā- and left after a visit or two, completely invading your heart and mind. My top 10 most touching store stories (thereās like a gagillion by now, but some are as clear as the day they happened) will give you chills and tears and all the feels. I promise. Iām so blessed, you guys, for the connections South Street has given.
I cannot pretend to love anything.
I donāt like attention, not even a little bit- thank goodness for the people whoāve stood beside me in this, on camera, to take the edge off. Iām sure I didnāt come up with this idea solo because Iām positive I never ever would have signed myself up for this. Regardless, a huge thanks to everyone who volunteered willingly and to Erica, because even though itās not her scene either, she showed up without me asking!
Challenging your comfort zone is always good and sets a good example for my kiddos.
8pm is a time for family, not Facebook, which Iāve well known but thought maybe juggling would be ok- It is not for me as a Mom. It feels awful. Soul sucking, really.
...Iām sticking to family first. Politely retracting from social media selling, at least in this manner, and reserving my energy for my brick and mortar shop and my home for now. If I find a way to feel connected to my customers by selling on social media then we will return. Til then, stop and see us, grab a coffee or a beer, maybe toss up a high five and see for yourself what a difference our solid in store experience can make. We are open 7 days a week and Iām always up for meeting you at a time that suits you. See you at The Street! ššš
...our webstore will be live for a while yet, if you want to snag anything! I have way too much going on before Iāll get to that!
