One of the many little things I have to make for old violins is linings. And yes, I make them from scratch.

Recently, I used the last of my old block of willow, which is what I use for blocks and for linings, so this week has been a flurry of splitting (sorry for the noise neighbors!) and cutting and planing chunks from another block of beautifully aged willow. I also split another (fairly big) log to let it continue aging and drying. It’s still too green to use just yet.

My gorgeous 18th century English violin with the tattered ribs is up for some new linings thanks to this latest little batch from said block.

Well, this will be quite a journey, I can already tell.

On July 1st of 2014, I opened the doors of Four Strings at Plant Zero, in studio 38.

I have since taken on countless challenging and satisfying repair jobs, I have have met, reconnected with, and enjoyed working with many, many lovely humans, and, I had to say goodbye to Plant Zero, which was truly bittersweet, but for the best.

I also expanded my family by two young gents, who many of you have met, and because of them I have had to juggle a work/life balance that is tricky at best and difficult at worst. Everyone in my life is so patient and gracious with me and my schedule, and sometimes it really feels like I don’t deserve it, and I am so glad that folks still trust me with their lovely instruments and time.

Thankfully, as of 2024 I am wildly busy and incredibly humbled by all the wonderful connections I have made through the years.

I genuinely have the best clients and colleagues in the world, and I very much look forward to the future.

Thank you all so very much.

So many projects!!

My apologies for going radio dark on here, but I have been very, very busy. It seems like every time I think about posting a picture or a story I end up getting started on the next step of something, which is great! These three violin tops are just a small smattering of what I am juggling right now.

My sincerest and deepest thanks for a great 2023, and I am truly looking forward to this year. Thank you all!!
