About Us:
Playa Sams was created out of the necessity from our own mid-sized theme camp’s needs paired with our background of freight logistics. While looking at the options for a container storage and on playa delivery program, we were excited to see that Burning Man shared the idea for providing such a service. Unfortunately, we were too late to the Org’s service and it has officially been suspended indefinitely.
So, as any burner does, we constructed a solution to our own problem. Container storage of a camp’s needed materials, delivered to the playa and safely stored during the year.
It is hard to get a group of people from all parts of the world to save and store the beautiful camps they create each year. Unfortunately, many burners knowingly dump items from their burn because they do not know what to do with it, and also because they have no soul. The container program itself IS a leave no trace program for the Burn. Our containers are enclosed, just imagine the moop accumulated off of trailers? How many tons of carbon emissions are created by hauling camp materials back across all parts of the country?
This is a mirror service to the container program no longer supplied by Burning Man itself. The difference is that the storage containers are rented, not purchased and camps have access year round. Our prices are more expensive because we do not, at the moment, have access to a staging area closer to Reno. Unloading everything you need for the infrastructure of your camp is a game changer for a theme camp, and loading that dustiness back into your container instead of your back shed is weight off the camp’s shoulders.
We believe the most important question being asked for any OSS is where their service falls in terms of radical self-realization. First and foremost, the most veteran camps are signed up for this same service through the Burning Man container program. That is because this service is merely an economy of scale for the maturation of a well-organized camp. Just as renting a U-Haul trailer or realizing your camp could benefit from the use of a water/fuel program, this is a program that will reduce waste and help the camp’s doing it right already to do it better. We also have small containers that we think would be great for international burners who might otherwise be buying and leaving their ENTIRE camp set up behind each year.
We have all the permits and qualifications for moving freight as our service intends to and own the containers. We moved our test container for our own camp through the main gate with our own campers last year.
