Thanks to all who arrived this morning to help clean up the leaves and move the branches from the community park labyrinth. It was too hot to do a lot, and to do the other activities I had planned. I thought it wouldn’t be that warm at noon today. So let’s try again to do further beautificationwhen it’s cooler and we all have more time

After all the Facebook shenanigans, it turns out I now have three accounts. Two say Gillian Brown. The other says Brigidsgifts, for my jewelry business . One has the blue profile picture, and the other has the one of me standing at the entrance of a long barrow. The latter is the original with over 700 friends. The other is the new one with just a couple of dozen friends.
Brigidsgifts has a picture of a pair of pearl earrings.
If I send you a friend request from either account, they’re real andnot a scam. But if you’re unsure, send me a private message before you add me.

On Friday, July 5, I’ll be selling my jewelry, gift cards, and books outside the Bootleg and Il Forno . I’ll be there from 10 to 3.
I have a new line of necklaces that I just created. This is very exciting as I’ve not seen anything quite like it before. I’m calling them spinners where you have four different sections of your necklace and you can spin them around according to the look you want.
One section could be peridot and pearl. One section could be green glass beads with Celtic charm accents.
Another section could be turquoise, blues, and pearls with ocean details. Another could be greens and browns for the first.
I’ve also got a wonderful collection of gift cards including one’s by my dear friend Wendy Andrew from England. Check out her website www.paintingdreams.co.uk.
I love her creations. I also have her Wheel of the Year which is the most unique seasonal round that I’ve ever seen. You can take a look at it on her website. They are not that easy to acquire as they have to come from England with ridiculously high postage rates.
Another small business owner is Holly Hunt from Vancouver. Holly created unique leather wristbands with exquisite designs such as trees and landscapes. You can find Holly on Etsy. If you want to take a look, I purchased five of her leather cuffs for you. Two have found new homes already.
I also have some other new earrings that are exquisite.. One pair is abalone with beads and crystals. Another is of a pair of green moths. These are all made by small businesses that it is an honor to support. They are not made in China.
Some people complain that some of my wares are imports… Well, if importing some beautiful earrings from a woman who is trying to build a cottage industry in Belfast is a problem… Well, I just don’t see it.
Come and see me and have a look! I’ll be outside the Bootleg and Il Forno on Friday, July 5 from 10 to 3.

I’m offering a four week course  for our kids. Starting on July 8.
The plan is to meet on Monday and Wednesdays.
Two groups according to age, interest and ability.
The morning group from 10 to 12 and
The afternoon group from 1 to 3.

Location TBA

Organized by me, Gillian Brown. I’ve been a teacher in the community since 1982. I come with many years experience working with kids of all ages.
My vision is to work with the kids on any catch up work they need to. do for their schoolwork.
But the main focus is to take subjects that the kids are keenly interested in. For example, one mom told me that her son likes to study Saturn. Another mom said her kid would love to learn more about Leonardo. This kind of thing. So they follow the interest whether it be for one day or for four weeks. We’ll take many sources to gather this information and complete logs and drawings and pictures etc. to round out the experience.
Sliding scale fee due on the date of the first meeting. No exceptions.

I just fell in love with Ukiah. Who would've thought it? Just in one block, I got the most incredible service at Subaru that fixed an issue I'd been having for months, where I couldn't get my key out of the ignition, local mechanics tried, but the final solution was to go to the dealer in Ukiah. there was the most incredible service. They got the spare part in two days they had it installed in two hours. I walked over to Staples and they came with their I shuttle and picked me up when I had finished shopping. Everybody was friendly and very knowledgeable and I felt like I was in excellent hands.
then in the same block, there is a grocery store that is cheaper than grocery outlet, cheaper than Costco . It was unbelievable how inexpensive everything was. Then next to that is Staples, which is absolutely enormous. I wanted some prints made from PDF files that I had purchased online. I've got a lot of lovely images of birds because I am a vendor at the Godwit bird festival this weekend. They printed them out in 30 minutes and there incredibly high quality and resolution. In the meantime, my phone had died and it is key these days to have your phone charged up because everyone seems to be doing this thing when they text you or call you when things like your car is ready. I was halfway through a conversation and my cell phone died. I had to buy a charger at Staples. But there was Staples! so I think a trip to Ukiah, including Costco if you want bulk items, it's a necessity I realize. And you can just go a few miles across the freeway to Vichy hot springs where I stayed one night between returning from Portland and taking the car. I always loved the place but it has expanded and is so incredible. After airport and travel and some health difficulties and so on, it was just this beautiful oasis. Flowers blooming everywhere, bright green grass, beautiful trees, in bud and the unique Hot Springs, where the water comes up from thousands of feet deep and feeds into a grotto, which is encased with glass to protect it then 10 individual tubs, a huge, hot tub and swimming pool! And they proudly announce that now the swimming pool was switched to salt rather than chemicals. Top that off an incredible delicious breakfast. So yeah, I fell in love with Ukiah 😋.

What is a Godwit one might ask. The Godwit is the special kind of bird that flies all the way from Alaska to the tip of South America without stopping except to drink water. It's able to expand its brain so that it can take that incredibly long distance, one of the places it stops to drink is in our area. So the folks up north have created a festival to celebrate the Godwit and all the living creatures around the bay and across the county.
So on April 19 the Godwit festival begins in Arcata at the community center. At the website you'll see all the many and varied field trips that have been organized around the whole bay a north, and south to Ferndale. Experts in the field take folks on these little field trip during the day and at night there are guest speakers.
At 7 PM on Saturday there is the keynote speaker.
Now this is a special event to me because of all the vendors that are there selling their wares connected to the festival I've been chosen to sell my jewelry. I have many pieces that either have images of birds or connected to nature in someway.
I'll be there all day Saturday, April 20. It's a small spot, only one 12 foot table, but I'll be right next to the main door. I just got the floor plan and there are less than 20 vendors a café and a bar in the area called the gym.
So I hope to see you all the 20th up in Arcata. It's a very special weekend for folks and also with some live animals for you to look at. Last time I went they had a snowy owl that had been rehabilitated. And you could just stand a few feet away and watch this beautiful creature. Also, there a really great kids section.
I am completely honored to be part of this festival and have some beautiful things to share.

so what is a Godwits Bird? they are these toughlittle birds with long beaks that are absolutely incredible because they fly from Alaska all the way down to South America without eating. They do stop for water and at this time of the year there are a lot of them around the Humboldt Bay, so the local folks of created a festival for the godwits. It is happening from April 19 through the 21st at the Arcata community center. If you look at the website you can see the list of how they run lots of different field trips throughou the area to see different birds and wildlife as well as the godwits.
