After careful consideration and thought, I have made the difficult decision to relocate my business to Nevada. This change requires closing the business temporarily starting today August 17th, 2024. Both our webstore and eBay stores will be down during this time. A reopening date is yet to be determined.

We are extremely grateful to Central Oregon and its robust mountain bike community. We appreciate everyone that made the trip to Eagle Crest Village to use our will call desk.

Hello -
Tomorrow Thursday August 1, 2024 we will be suspending shipping of customer orders for a period of 12 days (until August 13th) - This is the first interruption of our online mail order service in over 9 years. I will be traveling to the east coast to visit family-

DEADLINE: If you need to have something shipped before this point we ask kindly that you submit your order before: 5pm Thursday August 1st, otherwise we will resume shipping August 13th.

During this interruption the webstore will be closed. The eBay store will be in "vacation" mode, where it will still accept orders but they will not ship until August 13th - The eBay listings will advise you of this detail

The Forest Service has put forward a proposal to open up about 160 miles of trails and single track to allow class 1 e-bikes. This 160 miles includes some trails in the Phil’s trail system, Wanoga, Sunriver area trails, and Peterson Ridge outside of the town of Sisters - The proposal has started the initial 30 day period to take comments from the public - We will be following this story ✌️✌️✌️

So, Shimano dropped an update for the EP801 today- here is my summary of the press release:

Shimano Offers 'Race-Specific' Update For EP801 Motors

1) More aggressive Boost mode

2) Customizable max speed cutoff

3) Extended assist carryover

4) Updated Auto Shift

I think the the most meaningful change is the 3) assist carryover - this is allot like the “overrun” feature on competing models - not having this feature has been a key criticism of the EP801 so getting this update feels like the EP801 is back in the fight for the “best performance motor” title

the more aggressive boost gets up to speed faster and the updated auto-shift is also a more aggressive shifting map, it also stays in manual longer after a manual shift -

Shimano is recommending to get the update from your local dealer

The Shimano EP801 is the motor I want to ride and it’s the motor I will get on the next bike I buy- I will also set it up with XT LinkGlide ✌️✌️✌️

There is at least one eMTB media company that thinks you shouldn’t choose your next eMTB based on the motor brand, are the different motor brands so much the same that the motor model and brand doesn’t matter? - what do you think? 🤔

I feel athlete racers bring allot to the table in terms of the R&D that goes into improving equipment, but I think if you look at the athletes and racers that truly change the game in terms of performance equipment it is the ones that have real engineering education or experience- I’m not thinking of myself, I’m thinking of people like Craig Kelly (snowboarding) or Ken Miles (the real life LeMans racer portrayed in “Ford vs Ferrari”)- This type of competitor is bridging the gap between real world competition and the science and engineering of building something great
Am I right? What do you think?

“All else being equal” (I feel like I shouldn’t have to explain that part 😅) a thicker rotor is going to manage heat better than a thinner one, a bigger rotor is going to manage heat better than a smaller one, and a floating rotor is going to manage heat better than a 1-piece and you get the added benefit of no warping -

So, if you’re looking to max performance for extreme riding like World Cup downhill racing (all else being equal) you would pick a bigger, thicker, 2-piece floating rotor

Now racers will balance this against weight and probably sponsorship commitments

To me this is just physics but I think different industry players try to confuse the i$$ue

Now, if your going to point out a light weight rider may need less, you’re changing the “all else being equal” model (weight is now no longer equal weight in the comparison model)

A heavier rider will probably need more heat management than a lighter one
Just like a taller rider might benefit from longer chain stays - You can begin to argue “proportional” rotors if you like-
Am I right? What do you think?

Power or heat management? Everything else being equal isn’t it the same thing? If heat is managed you have more power (performance) go faster, stop faster, stop faster, go faster 🔥🏁😎👍🤙
