Pic is to try and make this a post and not a reel...another reason I absolutely despise Facebook.
Notes: I will leave this up for a couple weeks. Price increases are for new work checked in after March 1st. Work already checked prior to that date will be the old price. I will still be working on many "new" and most all old/vintage tube amps!

Very cool G&L SB-1 Bass in a custom color. G&L may not exist any longer, but hit up to see if they have any in stock. They were the coolest G&L dealer in the state, and where this bass was purchased several years ago.

This is the second to last keyboard repair that will grace the Tree Strings electronics repair bench. Starting now, I am discontinuing service for keyboards as well as many solid state amplifiers. It is not official yet, but I am also discontinuing warranty service for ROLAND products. I have told them this, but they haven't got back to me yet.

The reason being is that these jobs lose money, and/or throw a monkey wrench into the normal repair schedule. Service documents as well as parts are often hard to find for non-warranty keyboard and solid state amp repairs. I end up taking too much time tracking this stuff down, often running into dead ends.

I WILL continue to offer both warranty and non-warranty solid state electronics repairs for Fender and all Fender branded products, as well as Gallien-Krueger bass amps. Both of these companies offer great service documentation and parts for their products. Well, there are some exceptions to that rule for Fender...

There are a few more noteworthy changes that will happen soon here at Tree Strings, LLC, but I'm not ready to announce those yet. Be assured, business WILL continue pretty much as usual...or better...as time goes on. Thanks for keeping me busy!!

I have a good customer that is selling his drum kit. This kit has lived a comfy life in a nice basement. Never gigged, but played a lot. Ludwig drums; mix of Zildjan and Sabian cymbals; DW & Tama foot pedals; Percussion Plus snare. Everything in very good condition according to the owner. He is asking $600 for the entire kit.
If you are interested in purchasing this kit, please reach out to me on the shop phone via text and I will give you the sellers contact info. Kit is located here in Red Wing.

Hey folks. I don't sell guitars, but occasionally I'll help a customer with something they themselves are selling. One of my good, long time customers is selling these two EXCELLENT guitars. He is meticulous in his care of the instruments he owns and both of these are great examples of that:

-1964 Gibson J-45. I looked this one over when Colby first purchased it last year. At his request, I also installed an LR Baggs Session VTC pickup system in it. The guitar is in excellent condition. The bridge was replaced by Hoffman Guitars years and years ago. They of course did an excellent job. Asking price: $3750

-2025 Martin HD-28. I also looked this one over and installed a Session VTC in it. A great example of Martin's current USA made line. Asking price: $2850

BOTH guitars come in Gibson Custom Redline hardshell cases.

If you are interested in either of these guitars, please send me a text at the shop phone, or an email. I will then put you in touch with the owner.

A few days ago I worked on a 1974 Fender Twin Reverb. One of the main problems with the amp was that all the grounds that were terminated on the power transformer chassis bolts were broken. The nuts had loosened over time and the transformer was sliding/bouncing/vibrating for who knows how long. Fender would attach a ground lug to the bolt; tighten down the keps nut over that, then put a huge blob of solder that would bridge the ground lug to the chassis. I guess the idea being that a mechanical attachment needed to be reinforced with a solder joint? Whatever they were thinking, it did not always work. I never reattach grounds to chassis bolts. Often I will end up drilling a hole so I can attach a ground lug via a new bolt, lock washers and a nylock nut. Then the grounded wires/components get soldered to the lugs.
The pics show one of the original cracked joints; what the solder joint separation looks like once the old lug is out of the way, and then the new lugs and solder joints.

grounding to transformer chassis bolts is never a good idea...
