My 3 yr old is OBSESSED with Uncrustables sandwiches, or as he calls them "circle sandwich". Therefore the new Spread, Slice and Seal set in the Mid-July sales brochure is my new favorite product! I did the math and whether you get the 4 count package for $3.19 or the 10 count for $8, you end up paying $.80 per sandwich when you purchase the Uncrustables at your local store. Additionally they only have the choice of white or "wheat" bread. (I put wheat in parentheses because it's not really wheat bread if you read the label, rather just a light brown, enriched, basically still white bread.) This morning I made 7 homemade ones using the Spread, Slice and Seal with peanut butter, grape jelly and Oat Nut bread for a total out of pocket cost of $2.87 or $.41 for each sandwich. They are now down in my freezer for a bit before I individually wrap them for long term storage and grab and go convenience. 😀 This means that we can all make healthier, less expensive and custom sandwiches for our kids and STILL not the convenience of the commercially made version. Can't use nut butter due to allergies or a nut-free school?? No problem! How about cream cheese and jam instead?? Wondering about the pile of crusts leftover from making them? I'm planning to lightly toast them and run them through the Power Chef to make us healthy, homemade bread crumbs for dinners this week. AND this is not a one use product either....you can also use the same product to make individual, single serve sized pies too!
