One of the most popular amusements is back this year – Dunk the Readings! Local leaders have stepped up to take their turns sitting in a dunk tank for a good cause. Local students may want to take note, as they’ll see some familiar faces in the dunk tank this year.

Dunk the Readings will be located on the corner of Haven and Gould Streets during the Faire. $2 buys one chance to dunk someone, and $5 buys three tries. For a $20 donation, you can enjoy an automatic dunk and see a local leader get dropped into some pretty cold water. Proceeds from Dunk the Readings will benefit the reading Rotary Club/Fall Street Faire and 2020 RMHS graduate Autumn Hendrickson, whose researching and writing a book about the men and women from Reading and North Reading that served in World War II.

Because of our incredible community and volunteers, Dunk the Readings at the Fall Street Faire, was able to raise a grand total of $1704 split between the Reading Rotary and owners of Ruff N’ Ready Dog Grooming. After my public comment at the School Committee meeting, a generous donor once again came forward and raised the amount to $2001, exceeding our last year’s total!

I went and visited Liliana today at her shop and want you all to know that we literally made a difference someone’s life. Her and her husband Paul could not express how much this meant to them and their ability to keep on doing what they love. They used to handle 8-9 dogs a day and now they are reduced to 3. Liliana has another 6 months of physical therapy to go before things change and this donation as well as all the others will help them immensely.

Welcome to Reading. This is who we are.

Attached is the lineup for DunktheReadings at the Fall Street Faire today from 12-5PM. Please stop by and take your shot at dunking or meeting any of the amazing individuals in town volunteering for a good cause. All of the proceeds will be split between The Reading Rotary and the owners of Ruff N Ready Dog Grooming, that recently suffered a setback.

1 Ball for $2, 3 for $5 or an auto dunk for $20.

I will also randomly get into the tank if someone requests it but I had more volunteers than expected which is an amazing thing.

We are back for 2022! You’ll find them on the middle of Haven Street – wet, cold, and a little nervous. Our local leaders are volunteering their time in the Dunk Tank to support two great causes – the Reading Rotary Club and the owners of Ruff N’ Ready Dog Grooming, a small local business that recently suffered a serious setback:

Hi everyone, we raised $1186 that turned into $1326 which was dropped off yesterday to Reading Cooperative Bank. I then received a message that someone would be rounding that up to $2000 by generously donating $674 directly to the 625 Main Street Fund. The MVP of the event though was Parker principal Ricki Shankland that had a sea of kids lined up 10 minutes before her timeslot. I couldn't believe how many there were and some of them threw faster than I could. A little bit of normalcy in a time of uncertainty. An amazing job by all. This is Reading, this is who we are.
