I was asked by a friend if I could make a really cheap guitar play & sound good. Not being one that dodges a challenge, I thought I might work on a couple of bucks down guitars.
The blue SG was the cheapest Epiphone SG they offered. On top of that, it was a total wreck. I completely stripped the body, actually I ran it thru my planer just to make it flat again. Through the neck away & ordered a LP style neck that was a bolt-on. I had made the body so thin I had to do a few mods to make that all work, but it did. I have always been a big fan of Pellum Blue, so I mixed up a witches brew & Sprayed it on. Added in a pair of my noiseless P-90's, good tuners & adjustable bridge & low & behold, a great playing & sounding SG type. Not to mention, it wieghs about 3 pounds.
The middle one is a new Squier Starcaster that had a broken neck. I didn't care for the sound of the pickups, so I adaped some hot Dimarzio standard size humbuckers in there place. Replaced all the electronics with CTS & Switchcraft. I didn't have a Fender style neck at the time, but I did have a Gibson style on hand. A few adjustments later & the scale difference worked out, it's now a 24 3/4" scale guitar. Again, dare to be diffent.
The black Strat was a gift from an old friend that came from Walmart. I was really surprised to see it was not a plywood body. A full set of Area Dimarzio's & all new electronics, plus a nice neck & tuners, bammo, a great Strat style guitar. I changed the input plate to better fit a wireless I use.
These too are all for sale at Boothill Guitars in Belton Mo.
