Good Day Friends! ⛅️

9/24/24 – Today, I am deeply grateful to be alive and to have endured the experiences and emotions that life has thrown my way. Three years ago today, I left the IAFF COE, marking the beginning of a journey that continues to shape me every day.

Looking back, I never imagined going through what I have over the last several years. It felt like a personal disaster at times—a mess that needed to be untangled piece by piece, each strand teaching me something new. But now, I understand that struggle is a necessary part of the process. Life isn't meant to be smooth sailing; it's through adversity that we grow, learn, and gain the strength we never knew we had.

We are all students of life, continuously learning as we face challenges. Our responsibility is not only to become stronger ourselves but to share that knowledge with others walking their own paths. We need to show others what it means to learn, to grow, and to never give up. Life is a cycle—experience, prepare, repeat. And when we embrace the process, we build the confidence and motivation to face whatever comes next.

So today, I celebrate not just where I am but the journey itself, with all its highs and lows. Here's to embracing the struggle and showing others how to do the same.

Today, I want to take a personal moment to honor all the first responders and service members who’ve stepped up for this country we love. From rushing into burning buildings to saving lives on our streets, to standing guard for our freedoms overseas, your courage is something I deeply respect.

You sacrifice your safety, your time with family, and in many cases, so much more. Your commitment keeps our communities safe, our homes secure, and our country strong.

To each and every one of you, thank you. I will never take your bravery for granted, and I know I’m not alone. You’ve got a community that honors and supports you, today and every day.

May God Bless You All!

Good Day Friends! 🌞

On this morning of July 13, 2024, I find myself both honored and grateful as we lay to rest a truly remarkable friend, Steve “Sandman” Sanneman.

Steve was more than just a friend; he was a beacon of leadership, embodying the very essence of what it means to lead. "A leader leads - Teach them to choose," he would often say, encapsulating his philosophy of empowering others to make their own decisions.

As someone who once found himself lost and off track within the Fire Department, I understand the journey Steve went through. I, too, had to confront my own traumas, delving deep into a Pandora's box of pain to understand how my choices had brought me to the brink of despair. Standing on that precipice, facing the decision to either give up or fight, I chose to step forward. It was a step toward recovery, a step toward rebuilding myself as a leader who had embraced pain and suffering to inspire growth and change.

Steve’s legacy is a testament to this journey. He showed us that life is not about expectations but about experiences. It’s about the choices we make and the courage to lead ourselves first, so we can lead others.

Today, as we honor Steve, let us remember to lead with the same strength and compassion he did. Let us teach others to choose wisely and to embrace the experiences that shape us.

Life is experience, not expectations.

Good Day Friends! 🌞

6/25/24 I am grateful for some time with my daughter yesterday. She was such a good sport and helper with yard work. She's a good listener and worker.

SS- You would tell them this. So tell yourself too- The wise don't have problems.

We all use the word problem as we think it's a good choice of words. What we the wise warriors have to understand is there is no such thing as problems when we think of them as opportunities or obstacles rather than a problem. This means that they may be solved, they may be overcome and we may succeed when we tell ourselves that with time, patience, and determination we will prevail. We would not want to mislead our kids or loved ones by feeding them negative energy that discourages them from trying hard as many times as necessary to achieve success over obstacles. Yes, it may be tough to dig in and do the hard work, but not only will we reach our goal, but we will also gain much wisdom and confidence from the experience. These victories are the virtues we want to be known for and for our children to follow through with the same principles.

Tell yourself to think positive and to keep your focus on the journey and the destination will arise.
