Did you know we can help keep your bookkeeping organized?

Within a customer’s account, we can create sub-customers. We could make a sub-customer for a specific pasture of cattle, a specific group of calves in a feedlot, your replacement heifers, your chicken feed, or even your pet food.

This can be helpful and remove the guessing game of “okay, what group of cattle got this?!” Or help you keep chicken, horse, and pet stuff separate from cattle items.

The billing is streamlined through your main account, so you will still only receive 1 bill.

This is a feature that is included in our accounting system. If you’d like us to get something set up for you, just let us know!

Pre-Breeding Thoughts & Reminders 💭

- Nutritional requirements for a lactating beef cow will continue to climb until peak lactation right around the time of breeding

- Once bred, the first 40 days of pregnancy are fragile. 40-50% of pregnancy losses occur between fertilization & day 24. Another 10-15% occur around day 40 when the conceptus implants into the uterus

- Avoid unnecessary stress, transport, etc. during this time unless you want 3rd & 4th heat cycle bred cows next spring

- If AI’ing heifers, transport immediately after AI or wait until they are at least ~40-60 days bred. Similar to above, the first 40 days of a pregnancy are fragile before implantation occurs.

- Today’s decisions are affecting not only this year’s calf, but next year’s calf too. “Beef cattle developmental programming (fetal programming) shows that a dam’s nutritional status and environment, especially during gestation, significantly impacts her offspring's life-long productivity, health, and meat quality.”

I’ve been trying to put a stronger focus on a dam’s udder score when selecting a replacement heifer to keep from her. I don’t have any interest in ever running a registered operation, but udders are equally important to the commercial cow calf man! Nothing better than a calf getting up quickly after birth and going right to nursing. Seeing a vigorous calf spring up and not be able to get on a tit because it’s too big or low to the ground is so frustrating.
Pictured is some of our 1st & 2nd calvers’ udders that I’m pleased with.
