Some barrel racers get hot for a season. Lisa Lockhart has stayed elite for nearly two decades. And that kind of longevity doesn’t happen by luck.
It comes from grit. Discipline. Great horses. Long miles.
And an unwavering love for the rodeo life.
Year after year, Lockhart has remained one of the most respected and consistent competitors in professional rodeo, qualifying for an astonishing 19 consecutive National Finals Rodeos from 2007 through 2025 — a streak few athletes in any sport could even imagine.
Along the way, she captured three Wrangler NFR Average titles, won The American Rodeo three different times, earned an ERA championship, claimed a National Circuit Finals Rodeo title, and built more than $3 million in WPRA career earnings.
But perhaps even more impressive is this: For years, she has continued finishing among the top five barrel racers in the world standings against wave after wave of younger challengers. That kind of consistency turns great competitors into legends.
Long before becoming one of rodeo’s biggest stars in America, Lockhart was already dominating north of the border, winning multiple Canadian Professional Rodeo Association championships and establishing herself as one of the premier barrel racers in North America.
Yet despite all the lights, fame, and success, Lisa Lockhart’s life still revolves around family, horses, and the Western lifestyle she loves.
She and her husband Grady, a professional tie-down roper, built their life together in Oelrichs, South Dakota — a tiny town where everybody knows everybody and where rodeo still feels less like a business and more like a way of life.
Away from the arena, Lisa spends her time riding young horses and being a mother to their three children.
And maybe that’s part of what makes her story so admired throughout rodeo. Because no matter how big the stage became…Lisa Lockhart never stopped being a cowgirl first.
