I was talking to someone the other day about their concerns with the structural integrity of the pedal’s enclosure when the FS is being pressed. During that conversation I realized that I hadn’t publicly explained some design choices I made to combat this problem, so here we are 🧐🫡
I had the thought about the FS breaking the enclosure with extended use when I had made the first one. Even though the enclosure is made of a strong polycarbonate, it’s still plastic at the end of the day and not as integral as aluminum.
I use extra-long bushing footswitches so the solder lugs of the FS reach close to the lid. There is a piece of dense foam pressing against the solder lugs with the foam attached on the lid. The foam in thicker than the distance between the lid and bottom of the lugs, so when the lid is closed the foam is pushing on the lugs and that provides upward force on the bottom of the FS that supports it so there’s less strain on the enclosure when the FS is pressed. Ultimately this leads to a longer life for pedal’s enclosure 😏👉
