Tar River Arms (TRA) is a company influenced by my roots, love of outdoors, love of business, United States Marine Corps, and many years of experience advising government and commercial business’s how to use technology to do what they do better. I grew up in Eastern NC and most of my time as a child was spent hunting, fishing, bridge jumping, or swimming in the Tar River. Those experiences are why

this company is named Tar River Arms and is what’s fueling my desire to bring Tar River Arms to life and become a provider of fi****ms for all types of uses from sports, law enforcement, and military applications. I joined the United States Marine Corp in the early 90’s and becoming a Devil Dog was something I always knew I would do. Being a US Marine provided me an opportunity to run around outdoors, learn more about fi****ms, and gave me the educational opportunities that help start my civilian career, as well as, this business. After the Marine Corps, I started my career in computer technology which also provided an opportunity to serve my country in a different way. I began advising and selling technology solutions of many types to help Federal, State, & Local governments build the most efficient government possible. TRA is a business that supports and sell fi****ms for self-defense, hunting, shooting sports, military & law enforcement uses. TRA is also a business built on love of country, service to this country, and is driven by a lifelong passion of fi****ms in all shape and sizes.

FIRST FOCAL PLANE vs SECOND FOCAL PLANE — WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE? 🔭

This is one of the most common questions we get at Tar River Arms, so here’s the simple breakdown:

👉 FIRST FOCAL PLANE (FFP)
The reticle changes size as you zoom in and out.
✔ Holdovers stay accurate at ALL magnifications
✔ Great for long-range shooting and dialing quickly
✔ Preferred by many precision shooters

Downside:
At low magnification, the reticle can appear very small.

👉 SECOND FOCAL PLANE (SFP)
The reticle stays the SAME size no matter the magnification.
✔ Easier to see at low power
✔ Often preferred for hunting and general use
✔ Usually more affordable

Downside:
Holdovers are typically only accurate at ONE specific magnification (usually max power).

Simple way to think about it:
FFP = Precision and versatility
SFP = Simplicity and visibility

Today we remember.

Memorial Day is not about sales, cookouts, or a long weekend.

It is about honoring the men and women who gave everything so the rest of us could enjoy the freedoms we often take for granted every single day.

At Tar River Arms, we want to sincerely thank those who made the ultimate sacrifice for this country and the families who continue carrying that burden long after the service ended.

We also want to thank those who continue to serve today. Most importantly, today we pause to remember why we have the freedom to do any of this in the first place.

Reminder — Tar River Arms is closing early today at 3:00 PM for Memorial Day weekend.

If you’ve been meaning to stop by, today is the day.

The shop has been packed all week with new inventory, hard-to-find fi****ms, collector pieces, carry pistols, lever actions, AR platforms, trade-ins, and more constantly moving through the store.

And honestly… some of the things sitting on the wall today probably won’t still be there next week.

We’ll reopen Tuesday at 10:00 AM on our normal schedule.

Just a quick heads up for everyone this week.

Tar River Arms will be closing Friday at 3:00 PM for Memorial Day weekend and reopening Tuesday at 10:00 AM on our normal schedule.

We’re taking a few days to let the team spend time with family, relax a little, and reflect on what Memorial Day is truly about.

If you’ve been meaning to stop by the store, tomorrow through Friday afternoon will be the time to do it. The inventory right now is honestly one of the strongest selections we’ve had in a while with new arrivals, hard-to-find pieces, trade-ins, collector guns, carry pistols, lever actions, AR platforms, and more constantly rotating through the shop.
