Real post-
A snapshot of the last two weeks: Crisis, sickness, and the loss of our sweet handsome boy, Stuffin'. All that in addition to closing the store I put everything into- physically, emotionally, mentally, and financially. To say I'm worn out and sad doesn't begin to cover it.
I started this journey because the stress of teaching was drastically affecting my health and I could no longer do the job I was born to do, the job I loved. I decided to sell my house to start a business that would support the community around me. I met so many local artists doing pop up markets for my first business, Man in the Moon Vintage, and I wanted to create a platform to support the amazing creative people around me. I carefully chose every single brand I carried. If you came into my store, you would have seen green stickers everywhere. There was a green sticker on every product from North Carolina. I carried fair trade brands, brands giving back, and brands following their passions. I hired folks with intellectual and developmental disabilities, because they are so often overlooked and they have so much to offer. They were the heart and joy of my business. I held fundraisers for nonprofits, free storytimes, art openings for local artists, First Friday events, and baked dozens and dozens of cookies to give away. I created a welcoming, colorful, artful space that did its best to celebrate and embrace everyone who walked through the door.
People disappeared from my life and people came into my life. Owning a store is no joke. It takes over. Obstacles were thrown in my path and angels appeared to help clear them. I have met scores of wonderful people- customers and fellow business owners alike. I couldn't have gotten this far without them. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who showed up and helped out.
What's next? I still have a full 10'x15' storage unit brimming with stock. You can find our stunning jewelry at and our whimsical and Raleigh-themed items at . Soon, I will be re-launching my website and I will also do some local pop up markets. Watch this space to find us!
On to the next chapter!
