Staff pick from Lily for WE DANCE UPON DEMONS by Vaishnavi Patel

"This book is a balm and a rallying cry for everyone who vacillates between burn-it-all-down rage and debilitating despair as reproductive rights are methodically slashed. Sure, most of us won't accidentally release an imprisoned Hindu demon and take on some of his magic to help us fight back (on the bright side, we're also unlikely to have other demons trying to kill us on top of everything else); but I think we can all relate to how burnt out yet determined keep fighting Nisha is. I also really appreciate this book's emphasis on combating vast, overwhelming evil (whether mundane or supernatural) on a local level through community building."

Staff pick from Christy

PARTITA by Barbara Kingsolover

"This is a novel meant to be read slowly, enjoyed like the classical music referenced throughout. It is also a novel that could be read over and over so that the layers can be revealed. Every read will bring a new focus and a new passage to love. Kingsolver's descriptions of music, its power and magic, were breathtaking and truly masterful. This is one of the best books of the year."
